NIGHT TWO
Naomi defeats Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley for the second straight PLE, to retain the Women’s World Championship.
The WWE is doing everything they can to get Naomi over as champ. However, don’t be shocked if they switch the belt to Stephanie Vaquer as early as next month.
Candice LaRea stole the Six Way Tag Team match
Candice LaRea coming off the ladder and through multiple tables was one of the best bumps of the weekend. Who saw that coming? While B-Fab and Nikki Cross both looked like they didn’t belong, Candice stole the match and had one of the best bumps of the weekend.
Becky Lynch battles Lyra Valkyria in a 25-minute instant classic and Bayley gets involved.
Until the main event of John Cena vs Cody Rhodes, this was the best match of the weekend. Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch just have that special chemistry and despite the zip tie around Lyra’s wrists not exactly working properly, it still made for several great spots.
The Bayley internal battle on whether to help or hurt Lyra was also perfectly done, with Bayley staying face for now. Tremendous match as Becky has really elevated the first ever Women’s IC Championship and the WWE would be smart to keep it on her for a very long time.
How is Solo Sikoa still United States Champion?
Sikoa just defeated Jacob Fatu for the second straight time and made him look stupid doing it. I don’t know about this one. The WWE is doing a lot of great things right now, but I just don’t know about having Fatu lose so many times in a row.
Dirty Dom and AJ Styles subtly honor Eddie Guerrero several times throughout their match.
If you’re someone like myself, ( 43 years old ), you got to experience the greatness of Eddie. This was a special throwback several times that had long time fans like myself smiling, thinking about the “good old days”. Also, a smart move for the veteran Styles to give Dirty Dom the rub with the win.
Cody Rhodes has one of the best matches of his career by defeating John Cena in 37 minutes.
You can say what you want about in ring spots in AEW during their long matches on PPV’s. But this match tonight actually told A STORY! You felt every emotion and truly had no idea who was going win once you entered deep waters. This was the best Cena has looked in 15 years and for Rhodes, for him to win and stay a babyface was the right call.
Brock Lesnar returns to attack John Cena post-match.
Well, how about that? Lesnar was on the short list with Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk for opponents during Cena’s final run, and this now sets that up perfectly as Lesnar appears to be the final domino.
Final thoughts on the weekend can be found on the next page.
