A shocking title change and the return of one of the hottest gimmicks in WWE history are just two of the major surprises fans may be in store for at this years SummerSlam. Here is a quick breakdown of the card and what we expect to happen. Also, Rhea Ripley is easily the hottest thing going in WWE right now, she is nearly untouchable, so I think with a week away, they still have time to get her on the show.
Battle Royal
A way to get so many names that would be good enough to be on a WrestleMania card, a big PPV appearance despite the fact that they didn’t earn a singles match. Favorites in this one include Grayson Waller continuing to get a rub, LA Knight finally having that breakout moment we keep talking about him needing, or a returning Bray Wyatt winning it out of nowhere. Another shock could possibly be a debuting Bronn Breakker.
Prediction – Bron Breakker
Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler
Well, it looks as though we will not get the Rhea Ripley vs Raquel Rodriguez match we all wanted for the title, thus this one makes the main card in its place as a blood feud of two best friends turned bitter enemies. Conventional wisdom would have Shayna winning as a departing Rousey should do the right thing and put her friend over by tapping out to her on her way out the door.
Prediction Shayna Baszler
Ricochet vs Logan Paul
Expect a lot of high spots in this one as these two high flyers will attempt to steal the show. The bottom line here is that Richochet never gets a big win and Paul has lost a lot recently, he needs this win more than anyone and will get it.
Prediction – Logan Paul
Asuka defends her WWE Women’s Championship against Charlotte and Bianca Belair
The heel turn of Belair is in full force with a spot alongside The Street Profits waiting for her in the Hurt Business. For this to take full force however, she cannot win and will need to attack Charlotte after Flair finally puts over Asuka and lets The Empress of Tomorrow retain the belt.
Prediction – Asuka
Gunther defends his WWE Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre
This could go several different ways, but the WWE is only weeks away from Gunther unseating The Honkey Tonk Man from being the longest reigning IC Champ of all time. The WWE badly wants to get that gimmick off the retired superstar who still tries to make money off of it. Even without that note, Gunther is red hot right now and there is no chance the WWE is taking the strap off him.
With all that being accounted for, we almost take into account that McIntyre still hasn’t signed a new deal with the WWE yet, and the chances of having Gunther lose to a guy who may not be around in 90 days is a slim one. We may even see a double turn here where Gunther goes full on face while Drew walks over to the dark side. Or, better yet, Sheamus shows up and costs Drew McIntyre the match in a shocking twist.
Prediction – Gunther
World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defends against Finn Balor
I have no idea why Balor gets another title after losing cleanly to Rollins at Money in the Bank, but here we are. With the rumor of Rollins taking time off for surgery, and the WWE wanting to push a Latino World Champion, this seems to set up perfectly for a Priest cash in on Rollins after another win over Balor.
Prediction – Rollins defeats Balor and then drops the gold to Priest on a cash in.
Cody Rhodes Brock Lesnar
Remember when this rubber match was supposed to have some crazy stipulation to it? Whatever happened to that? With Lesnar wrapping up his latest WWE run soon, all roads point to Rhodes in this one. See what I did there?
Prediction – Cody Rhodes
WWE Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso
Oh boy, this one can go any number of ways. Several hints have pointed to Jimmy (John) showing up to turn against his brother. The foreshadowing from Paul Heyman has been going on for weeks and it almost seems like a foregone conclusion.
WWE WrestleMania 39 had three amazing Main Event matches that have been the best of 2023, with Ripley vs Charlotte, The Uso’s vs Owen & Zayn and the Rhodes vs Reigns showstopper. That being the case, these two are going to have work their asses off to match that.
