Why Football In The Spring Could Work

After posting articles about the MAC cancelling football and then The Big Ten rumored to be moving to Spring, it was only natural to be pretty damn depressed today. Little did I know, the simple fix to that depression was turning on my television.

Within minutes I had the option of watching NHL Playoff Hockey (the best playoffs in sports), the PGA Championship, MLB and the NBA.

Talk about being happier than a pig in mud!  It got me thinking, as much as I disagree with moving football to the Spring, it could actually work for one year only, and be good.

Moving football to the Spring would only work on the College Level.  I’ll say it again, it won’t work now or ever for High School.  If they do that, it is a colossal mistake. But it can work for college and may set up sports fans for the greatest five month stretch of their sports lives.

Let’s just assume everyone is right, and we magically get a cure that opens up the world again on January 1rst as people keep hoping for.

It could and would set up for the greatest Spring in a sports fan’s life.  Here is how it would work if they do move college football to the Spring.

January – NFL Playoffs and NBA season begins January 1rst.  NCAA Basketball begins as well for a condensed season.

February – NFL Superbowl, NBA continues on and NCAA College Football begins with fans in the crowds in all divisions.

March – NCAA March Madness, NCAA Football continues on with a full schedule. Also, NBA continues, MLB spring training begins and NFL Free agency begins.

April – NCAA Football playoffs and bowl season, NBA playoffs begin, MLB regular season also begins and the Masters for PGA Golf.

May – NFL Draft on May 31rst after scouting combine earlier in the month, NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, and all of this a distant memory!

Flicking though the channels and having to decide between NBA, NHL, College Football and NCAA March Madness all at once?  Sign me up for that!

Oh yeah, I guess there is NASCAR too…….
