What Is the Best NFL Rivalry Today?

Rivalries

In the NFL, all teams have a goal each game, beat the other team on the other side of the field. Sometimes though, there are two teams that when put up against each other, are a little extra motivated to destroy each other. Teams that have gone through grueling battles for years whether they be in the same division, have had intense playoff battles even a Super Bowl rivalry. The NFL has many rivalries I can name such as Steelers Vs Browns and The Bears and Green Bay Packers. That being said This is not an article about all time rivalries. This is about What true best rivalry in the NFL is currently, and I believe that rivalry is the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.

The start

The Patrick Mahomes era officially began during the 2019 season in which he would go on to win his first Super Bowl ring. Another young team fell short however, but their young quarter back had shown signs of being a star after a crushing loss to the host on Texans. Josh Allen would come back in the 2020 season and put up the best numbers of his career throwing for 4,544 passing yards and 37 touchdowns ultimately leading the Bills to the playoffs once more.

Patrick Mahomes and the Cheifs picked up right where they left off, winning 14 games and dominating there division. The Chiefs would push there way back to the affix championship fir the third straight year aftr a thriller with the Cleveland browns. Buffalo would cruise past both of their matchups and this would lead to the first of three playoff battles between the two teams.

Playoff Battles

The two teams have had three playoff battles over the last four years. There first matchup was close until the chiefs would pull away and show there toughness as they would pull way eventually defeating Josh Allen and the Bills 38-24. The following year would be one of the greatest playoff matchups of all time as the bills were driving late in the fourth quarter. Josh Allen would hit Gabe Vincent with a touchdown pass and the bills would take a 36-33 lead with only 13 seconds left on the clock and well, Every NFL fan knows what happens next.

The infamous 13 second drive down field lead by this decades best quarter back Patrick Mahomes to get the chiefs into field goal range allowing vet field goal kicker Harrison Butcker to nail the  game tying field goal. This would force overtime and the chiefs would get the ball first, scoring a touchdown and winning what would be known as one of the best games to go down in the hilarity of the sport.

They would meet a third time in the 23-24 playoffs where This time the bills would actually have home field advantage. The game would go back and forth as no team could really pull away from one another. The Chiefs were able to score another touchdown early in the Fourth quarter on a Isaiah Pacheco run on top the end zone.

Aren’t there better rivalries?

This is what I believe to be the best rivalry in the NFL TODAY, not all time. Many would say that the Bears and Packers or maybe Steelers and Browns. But looking at the stats those two rivalries haven’t really been close art all over the last 10 years. The Steelers have dominated the Browns over the last 10 years as they have a 14-5 record against them. Same occurs with the Packers and Bears, the Packers have dominated the Bears even worse, as the Bears have a 2-18 record against them over the last 10 years. The Chiefs may be 3-0 vs The Bills in the playoffs but all of those games were close down too the wire battles. Not to mention that the record between the two teams over the last 10 years is 4-3 with the Bills actually being the one with the winning record.

Conclusion

In conclusion I believe that The Chiefs and Bills truly are the best rivalry in the NFL today.         Rivalries aren’t as intense today as they were years ago and this one is as intense as the come. Drama, spectacular quarterback play, and intensity. Sure the two tweaks aren’t trying to take out other teams player bit from a competitive standpoint a rivalry doesn’t get much better than this. Who knows though, soon another rivalry may rekindle or a new one will take the league by storm. That’s the great part about being an NFL fan, we will just have to wait and see!
