After a few weeks off, the Westlake Demons looks as sharp as ever and appear to have no rust on them. They went on the road into North Ridgeville and took down the Rangers 50-37 in a key SWC battle. The Demons are known for defense and ball control, they did both of those things beautifully as North Ridgeville is one of the top scoring teams in the conference.
One night off of a 26-point performance by Freshman sensation Grace Kingery, the Demons held her in her check and to only 6 points. Maddy Rosado was held to also 6 and Brynnley Kerr stepped up with a big 13-point night. Becca Bradley had 4, Brooke Lime had 4 and Palcisko had 4.
For the underclassmen of North Ridgeville, this was their first time playing back-to-back talented teams on back-to-back nights. A great learning experience for sure, however coach Esser has them going in the right direction as they battle through injury and short-handed issues.
Westlake once again did everything good teams do, play defense and move the ball around. The Demons had 9 players find the score sheet. They do the little things right and it continues to work out for them. Morgan Kress led them with 13 big points.
The Demons led 14-8 after one on the strength of 7 from Gigi Redinger. They would keep that lead heading into half at 23-18. Helping the Rangers cut into the lead in the second quarter, was Grace Kingery who had 5 of her 6 points in the quarter. The Rangers won the quarter 10-9 and made it a 5-point game at half.
It was the Rangers cutting into the lead again in the third quarter, by outscoring the Demons again, this time 11-10 making it a razor close game at 33-29 heading into the final 8 minutes. The Rangers were hanging around and appeared to be in position to possibly pull off the upset.
The upset bit would disappear for good in the Fourth Quarter as the final 8 minutes belonged to Westlake. The Demons controlled the quarter by outscoring the Rangers 17-8. Anna Williams had all 5 of her points in the fourth, while Kress scored 5 more and Salem had all 5 of her points as well. Taylor Gregory also had a bucket in the final frame as the Demons improved their record to 7-0 on the season.
