The Fairview Warriors (3-4) offense could not find any solution to the Westlake Demons (3-3) defensive scheme on Wednesday. A 40-19 vicory came courtesy of a fantastic effort all around, moving them to 3-0 in conference play.
Besides the terrific on-ball defense from the Demons, the Warriors inflicted damage to themselves throughout this one. Some passes were too strong, others too high or low, but none that led the shooters into open looks.
It was such a struggle that up until the final seconds of the second quarter, Fairview would have had a one-point showing. A three by Shahd Abuhamdeh gave them their second-highest scoring period of four points. Minimizing the Warriors’ chances even more were rough nights from two of their best threats.
Junior Gabby Davenport and senior Leila Discenza were not able to find the net, both combing for nine points.
Turnovers were part of Fairview’s downfall too. It constantly put Westlake into position to get to the cup for layups or draw fouls. The Demons got into the bonus with 5:35 to play in the second quarter.
Ten Demons dropped in a bucket tonight with Lydia Tymoszczuk leading all scorers with nine. Five of them came from her willingness to attack and get to the charity stripe. Lauryn Stanton tacked on eight points, and Ella Stanton added seven.
Corey Rojeck’s Demons are back in action at home Saturday against their fourth conference foe, Rocky River. Fairview will look to bounce back as they travel to Bay Village on Saturday.
