Westlake Defends The Demons Lear 26-8 Over Rhodes

WESTLAKE, Ohio –  Sam Brucchieri overcame a rocky start to finish with 2 touchdowns on the ground and two more in the air, leading the Westlake Demons to a 26-8 victory over the Rhodes Rams. Bruchieri finished with 79 yards in the air and 58 yards on the ground.

Toting the rock the most for the Demons was Jake Ostrowski with 65 yards on 11 carries. The main target in the air for the Demons was Chris Campbell with 5 catches for 46 yards and a score.  The main producer for the Rams was Ty’Ion Corpening with 3 catches for 139 yards with a touchdown.  He also had an interception on defense as well.

The Demons started with the ball and moved quickly with a few first downs to march into Ram territory.  They were then aided by pass interference call that moved it to the 27-yard line. A few plays after that it was a QB draw from Brucchieri that became the game’s opening touchdown.   This provided the Demons with an early 7 -0 lead with 9:04 to play in the first.

A big 24-yard rush began the Demons second drive and planted the ball firmly at the Rams 32-yard line. The drive stalled however after a wide-open receiver dropped a pass and Brucchieri missed one completely.  Sam was then picked off by Ty’Ion Corpening on his next pass.  Corpening remained the star as on the very next play, he caught a 89-yard bomb from Daishawn Greene to score.  A two-point conversion later and it was 8-7 Rams with 5:28 to go in the first.

The first quarter came to an end with the Demons trailing the Rams, but they had the ball on the Ram 10-yard line.  A few moments into the second quarter, it was another Brucchieri keeper for the driving touchdown from 9 yards out to make it 14-9 Demons.

Following a Ram fumble the Demons started their next drive at the Rams 47-yard line.  A few plays into the drive, Brucchieri hooked up with Chris Campbell in the corner of the endzone for a 22-yard touchdown strike.  The 2-point conversion was no good, and the score moved to 20-8 with 4:59 to go.

The Rams began the half by using the same play that scorched the Demons in the first half, a bomb launch to Corpening down the middle of the field.  This time it resulted in a 46 yard first down. Greene then ripped off a nice 23-yard run before getting stripped of the ball and handing it back to the Demons at their own 13-yard line.

The third quarter didn’t see any scoring as we entered the fourth by the same score of 20-8 Demons on top. The Demons first drive of the quarter started at the Ram 27-yard line after a shanked punt.  A QB draw and penalty later, and it was first and goal from the 10-yard line.  Three Colon runs later led to a fourth and goal from the 4-yard line. They cashed in on the chance with a touchdown toss from Brucchieri to Charbel Rida to extend the lead to 26-8 with 8:41 to play.

The Demons went on to win by that same score.
