Westlake Defeats Warrensville Heights 30-6

In a game played under rainy conditions, the Westlake Demons faced off against the Warrensville Heights Tigers. Warrensville Heights got the ball to begin the game, looking to draw first blood. They had a good drive going filled with run plays. The drive stalled when they turned the ball over on downs, giving the ball back to the Demons. Westlake drove down the field in the same fashion, run after run.

The Demons were set up nicely at the Tigers 10-yard line, looking to put the gameโ€™s first points on the board. However, Westlake running back Jake Ostrowski fumbled the ball on the 4 yard-line, which was recovered by the Tigers at the 1-yard line. On the very next play, Warrensville Heights running back Jashawn Banks got stuffed behind the line of scrimmage, resulting in a safety for the Demons. Late in the quarter, Westlake quarterback Sam Brucchieri kept the ball up the middle for a 46-yard touchdown run, making the score 9-0.

The action didnโ€™t stop for the Demons in the second quarter. Westlake had the Tigers backed up in their own endzone. Quarterback Amere Harris fumbled the ball in the endzone, which was recovered by the Demonsโ€™ Tamer Abedrabo for six. Westlake kept the pedal to the metal as they went for a two-point conversion. Brucchieri found his running back, Jake Ostrowski out left to complete the conversion. This put the Demons up 17-0. Looking for something to get them back on track, the Tigers trusted their running back, Jashawn Banks, who took the first handoff 90 yards before getting stripped at the 5 yard-line. The fumble was recovered by Westlake linebacker Louie Hassan for a touchback.

The second half continued to be rough for Warrensville Heights. On their first drive of the half, a fumbled snap on the Tigers’ 16-yard line was recovered by Westlake. On the next play, Sam Brucchieri kept the ball to the left for a 16-yard touchdown. Warrensville Heights made some noise on their next drive as quarterback Amere Harris kept the ball himself and scampered 65 yards to the endzone to put the Tigers on the board. The two-point conversion was no good.

Success didnโ€™t carry into the fourth quarter for Warrensville Heights. They forced the Demons to punt the ball away in hopes of making a comeback. If there was any chance of that happening, it all went away as the Tigers muffed the punt, setting Westlake up at the 14 yard-line. A few plays later, Jake Ostrowski found the goalline, punching it up the middle for six. The tally put the Demons up 30-6, which ended up being the final score. With the win, Westlake improves to 2-1 on the season and will travel to Lakewood next week to take on the Rangers. With the loss, Warrensville Heights falls to 0-3 and welcomes Lucas at home next Friday.
