Week 4 AP Poll Reaction

Recap of My Prediction Last Week

Looking back on my previous “Next Week Jump Picks” I’m currently 2/2. Last week I said South Carolina would cover the spread against Georgia which they did and almost pulled an upset. What held back the Gamecock’s was their Achilles heel, the offensive line. The Gamecocks couldn’t run the ball and were shut down in the 2nd half by a solid Georgia defense.

Top 25

  1.  Georgia
  2. Michigan
  3. Texas
  4. Florida State
  5. USC
  6. Ohio State
  7. Penn State
  8. Washington
  9. Notre Dame
  10. Oregon
  11. Utah
  12. LSU
  13. Alabama
  14. Oregon State
  15. Ole Miss
  16. Oklahoma
  17. North Carolina
  18. Duke
  19. Colorado
  20. Miami
  21. Washington State
  22. UCLA
  23. Tennessee
  24. Iowa
  25. Florida

Hello Gator Nation

The Flordia Gators had a tremendous 2nd quarter outscoring the Volunteers 20-0, putting them up 26-7 at the end of the half. Trevor Etienne had an outstanding game rushing for 172 yards and a touchdown to beat Tennessee with a final score of 29-16. Both teams moved to 2-1 and took Tennessee from 11 to 23 real quick while pushing the Gators into the Top 25 at spot 25. It was a pretty even game with the only thing that stood out statistically being the time of possession. Flordia had the ball for 37 minutes compared to the Volunteers’ 22 minutes. Now with the win should Florida be ranked over Tennessee?

Crimson Tide Struggling

This Nick Saban Alabama team just doesn’t look the same this year. Alabama drops 3 more spots from 10 to 13 after a bad performance against USF. The Roll Tide won 17-3 but was tied 3-3 at halftime. This game was all on the ground with a total of 194 passing yards combined from both teams in this game. Both Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson struggled in the game while Jalen Milroe watched. The Crimson Tide is looking like a mess this season and can’t afford another loss if they want any hope of making the college football playoffs later in the year. Alabama moves to 2-1 on the year while USF moves to 1-2.

The Seminole Scare

Boston College was just shy of pulling off the upset over FSU with a final score of 31-29. FSU moves from 3 to 4 with this close win and moves to 3-0 while Boston College moves to 1-2 on the season. Boston College started to let this game slip away from them but made a last-quarter push which came up just shy holding FSU to 0 points in the 4th quarter and outscoring them 13-0. It was an impressive game from Boston College who beat FSU in total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, yards per play, and finally 3rd and 4th down conversions. The only issue is Boston College gave up 18 penalties for 131 yards. With more focus and discipline from Boston, they could’ve won this game.

My Thoughts on the Top 25

Like I said last week Texas should’ve been over FSU and it was corrected this week. I think dropping Alabama 3 spots was the right decision with a bad performance. Kansas State had a tough loss to Missouri this past Saturday which cost them a spot in the top 25 and rightfully so. That loss opened the door for Florida who moves into the top 25 but they are in the wrong spot. Florida should be at 23 after beating a ranked division rival. The order should’ve been Florida, Tennessee, and then Iowa. The rest of the rankings are pretty reasonable but with the games on slate for this Saturday, it might be a big shake-up.

My Next Week Jump Pick

It is so difficult to pick one game for my Jump Pick this week but I’m confident in Ole Miss. My Jump pick this week is 15 Ole Miss to beat 13 Alabama. I think this is the nail in the coffin for Alabama’s playoff hopes. The team has a quarterback problem and that is the biggest problem to have. Along with the quarterback issue are the O-line issues which have been exploited by Texas, USF, and most likely Ole Miss. Alabama needs better quarterback play to compete against this high-powered offense of Ole Miss. A fact to know, Saban hasn’t lost back-to-back home games since his first season with Alabama in 2007.

Ole Miss on the other hand is averaging 52.7 ppg this season which is leading the SEC and 4th in FBS. Their quarterback Jaxson Dart is going to be the X factor. He is a top-tier quarterback in the country who is mobile and can spread the field deep. This game is going to come down to quarterback play and Ole Miss has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. I trust the better offense and quarterback play of Ole Miss to win this game outright. With a win, Ole Miss will be a top 10 team in the country.
