Should Clemson be in the Top 25?

Seeing the Tigers at 25 was a shock taking into consideration that they lost 28-7 to Duke on Monday night. Duke’s defense forced 2 fumbles and an interception while keeping Clemson to 7 points. Clemson struggled on offense and made plenty of mistakes which should’ve cost them a spot in the top 25. Clemson scrapping a top 25 spot after a loss to Duke raises a lot of controversy and room to debate if Iowa deserves to be in over Clemson. Duke jumps up to 21 while Clemson drops to 25.

Prime Time Delivered

The most exciting game of the weekend was TCU vs. Colorado with the national team of the week Colorado winning 45-42 in a barn burner. Colorado moves to 22 while TCU gets the boot from the top 25. The new Offensive Coordinator Sean Lewis and his new offense exploded in this game for 565 yards and looked very impressive with Quarterback Shedeur Sanders throwing for 510 yards and 4 touchdowns. TCU got the run game going with 262 yards on the ground but couldn’t get a stop late in the game. It’s a tough game to drop for TCU, especially at home but the team should pick up some wins and bounce back.

The Seminoles are back in Business

The Florida State Seminoles got the win at home over the LSU Tigers 45-24. The Seminoles won this game based on 2 key things. Firstly FSU killed LSU in time of possession with a difference of 10:86. Secondly LSU converted 3/10 on 3rd down conversions compared to FSU who converted 9/14. The Seminoles move to 4 while LSU drops to 14 in the new AP Polls. It is a big win for Flordia State which may benefit the team later on but doesn’t hurt LSU as much. The Tigers lost to the (at the time) 8th best-ranked team in the nation.

My Thoughts on the Top 25 Rankings

The rankings for the most part were fine but Clemson is a problem. Clemson should’ve been kicked out for losing to an unranked Duke team. If Clemson made it a game and didn’t get dominated the way they did, I can see them maybe staying in at 25. But that didn’t happen with 7 points on the board and that is why Iowa deserves that 25th spot. Colorado beat the runner-up in the national championship game last year, and the biggest kicker is Colorado was on the road. Colorado deserves to be higher than 22, especially over Duke who beat a struggling Clemson. But overall I think the AP Poll rankings for week 2 are fair and awarded the correct teams for winning and didn’t punish LSU too harshly.

My Next Week Jump Pick

This week I’m going to pick 11 Texas to potentially jump up in next week’s rankings. Texas has a hard matchup against 3 Alabama on the road. If Texas can pull off this upset which they are capable of doing they should fly into the top 5. It would be a huge statement win for them and Alabama would not drop that hard if they lose just like LSU. This should be the most anticipated game this Saturday.
