Was This The Most Patriotic Moment In WWF History?

With today being the 4th of July, everyone is feeling just a little bit extra patriotic.  That is no different for pro wrestling fans who have spent years cheering for the good guys and rooting against the evil monsters.  Perhaps none being larger then the 500lb plus Yokozuna in the summer of 1993.

This was a concept of Good vs Evil that WWE promoter Vince McMahon used time and time again to make millions of dollars.  Perhaps the most patriotic wrestler in WWE history was the legendary Hulk Hogan who encouraged fans to train, say their prayers and take their vitamins.

However, after Hogan left the company in June of 1993, not to return for 8 years, McMahon needed a new American Super Hero and he got one in the form of Lex Luger.

With Yokozuna being the perfect heel monster, Vince McMahon had Luger in his back pocket ready to go.  Till this point, Luger was seen as a self adorning Narcist who cared only about his incredible physique.

McMahon and the WWE just needed the perfect platform to showcase the changing of the guard.  They got exactly that on the deck of the USS Intrepid on July 4th, 1993.
