The much rumored final two of Michelle and Rachel is now set after last nights emotional night on The Bachelor. While the season finale is set to have its own set of dramatics and powerful moments, perhaps the biggest and most emotional moment of all time was held last night.
In the opening scene Matt James confronted his Dad about not being there for his family and running around on his Mom. Apparently, his mother had enough of his infidelity and left him when the children were young.
The excuse, (because there always seems to be one), is that his father ran around on his mother because his own father died at a young age. Before I get on a soap box of any kind, I have to admit I don’t know what it’s like. My own father has been amazing my entire life. I don’t think he could have done any better than he did. I married a woman with an amazing father as well. My Grandpa was incredible, it’s all I’ve ever seen. I cannot relate and I won’t pretend to or crucify anyone who has been a poor parent.
However, with that being said, I want to stand up and applaud Matt. This took serious guts and courage to do this on national television. Good for him! As I have said several times, Matt seems like a genuine and very good human being.
He is someone easy to root for and want to see happy. No matter what happens down the stretch, this moment of conflict and hopefully resolution will go down as the season’s best moment.
Matt has said several times that he wants to have children. Perhaps this moment of courage and setting the record straight with his father, will help with his father being around for his grandchildren. Again, no matter what happens during the final episode, this moment will stand the test of time as the most impactful in show history. I’m hopeful it will encourage others to stand up for themselves and also seek resolution to issues tearing families apart.
What happens next is anyone’s guess. Each season, no matter the outcome, Chris Harrison and the producers say, “the most shocking ending ever”. But it seldom ever is.
With all that being said, the sportswriter in me can’t help but make a prediction. I believe he picks Rachel, as that seems to be belief for the last several weeks and I will stick with it. I’ve said for months now that Michelle is the best suited companion for him.
I also believe that the relationship won’t stick, and is already over after Rachels picture mishap. Does that then lead him to re-kindling with Michelle and them getting together in the end after all? Time will tell…..
