WrestleMania 31 was the perfect example of “Don’t Judge A Book by it’s Cover”.  Coming into the card at Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium where the San Francisco 49ers play in the NFL, it appeared that we were all in for a predictable clunker of a show.  With Brock Lesnars contract running out, and the mega push of Roman Reigns well underway, it seemed like a forgone conclusion Reigns would walk off into the sunset as the new Unified World Champion.  What happened instead went down in WrestleMania lore, probably never to be repeated.

The drama began about 48 hours beforehand, when Brock Lesnar announced that he would not be returning to the UFC, instead, opting to re-sign with the WWE for 3 more years.  This, combined with the lukewarm reception to Roman Reigns by the fans, made the main event suddenly very interesting.  Would they stick with the original plan of making Reigns the new face of the WWE, or would they get cold feet and keep the strap on Brock Lesnar?

What occurred would be neither as the former Shield teammate of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank Briefcase to become the first man to do it at WrestleMania, and win!  Rollins, rescued what was starting to become a rather boring match of Lesnar hit Reigns with over a dozen suplexes on his way to decimated him.  Roman Reigns was practically Superman as he continued to get up every time as the fans grew leerier of what they were seeing.   It was then that the music of Rollins hit, the crowd popped, and he curb stopped Reigns on his way to World Title winning history!

This will forever be one of the largest shocks in WrestleMania history.  Rollins had lost to Randy Orton via an earth-shattering RKO earlier in the night that saw Orton reverse a curb stomp from Rollins into the devastating finisher.  Fans and media alike thought the night was over for Rollins after the defeat, but clearly we were all wrong!

This was also fantastic booking, because it did several things.  It got the strap off Lesnar without him having to take a loss.  It gave Reigns an excuse as to why he lost, not having lost to reigns, but rather an interfering Rollins he wasn’t ready for.  Thus, keeping both men looking strong who were just in your main event, and then, and top of all of that, Rollins was in a fantastic match with Orton earlier in the night that he lost, thus, it makes Orton look strong but he is fresh off a win of the now champion, and right in line to challenge for the title in which he ended up doing right after. Everyone wins, one outcome, made Lesnar, Rollins, Orton and Reigns all look strong, and gave the WWE Universe a memorable and fun ending, few if anyone complained about.
