Akron, Ohio – Gavin Shrum threw a complete game shutout Sunday afternoon, propelling the Warren JFK Eagles to a 4-0 win over Lincolnview in the Division IV state championship at Canal Park.
The two teams traded zeros throughout the first three innings.
Warren JFK took the lead in the top of the fourth when Michael Mauro delivered a one-out single up the middle to score Cam Hollobaugh.
Aiden Rossi followed with a Baltimore chop single to third base to bring home another run, increasing the lead to 2-0. Santino Ciambotti added an RBI single to left to increase the lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth, Michael Condoleon reached on an infield single. He advanced to second on an intentional walk, and scored on a Michael Mauro single to left. This increased the Eagle lead to 4-0.
Junior pitcher Gavin Shrum was outstanding on the mound. He threw a complete game, allowing just five hits, walking one, and striking out seven. Every time the Lancers looked to threaten to score, the defense came up big, getting time double-plays and groundballs to end any threats.
He also went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. Junior Michael Mauro went 2-3 at the plate with two RBI singles. Sophomore Aidan Rossi also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI single.
Lincolnview senior pitcher Collin Overholt threw a complete game, allowing seven hits, four runs, walking one and striking out nine.
Congrats to both teams on an outstanding contest!
