Walsh Jesuit Warriors Move to 9-0 in 38-7 Win Over Brunswick Blue Devils

Brunswick, Ohio – The Brunswick Blue Devils hosted the Walsh Jesuit Warriors at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium for a non-conference game. The Warriors went on to outscore the Blue Devils 38-7, putting up a dominating performance on the road to remain undefeated at 9-0.

Walsh Jesuit started off the game with the ball on their own 20-yard line. The Warriors offense had an impressive start to their opening drive, connecting on a deep pass and an explosive rush to set Walsh Jesuit up in enemy territory. The Warriors moved the ball halfway through Blue Devil territory before being forced to kick a 35-yard field goal, giving Walsh Jesuit a 3-0 lead over Brunswick with 10:00 left in the first quarter. Brunswick started their first drive on their own 23-yard line. The Blue Devils’ run game advanced them gradually up the field. There were four straight penalties in a row, moving the Blue Devils forward and backward on multiple occasions. Brunswick used eleven minutes to move the ball on their opening drive, but were halted short on Walsh Jesuit’s 38-yard line on a turnover on downs. The Warriors had a methodical second drive, utilizing both the air and ground game. Walsh Jesuit gained a lot of ground on the air game, which set the Warriors up for a 25-yard receiving touchdown pass from quarterback Keller Moten to Dominic Romanini to give Walsh Jesuit a 10-0 lead with 0:26 left in the first quarter. Brunswick started their next drive on their 27-yard line and kept the ball going into the second quarter.  

Continuing their drive in the second quarter, Brunswick attempted to make a push to score. The Blue Devils’ offense made great strides to begin their drive. After a few plays on the ground, Brunswick was set up in Warrior territory, and were able to get into the redzone. Brunswick quarterback Sean Barnett was successfully able to scramble for an 11-yard rushing touchdown to get the Blue Devils on the board, trailing 10-7 with 5:54 remaining in the first half. Walsh Jesuit started their next drive on their 20-yard line. Walsh Jesuit, looking to continue to score and keep the Blue Devils’ defense on their heels, kept the ball for an extended period of time. The Warriors’ offense slowly crept down the field and scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown by running back Lucas Weaver to give Walsh Jesuit a 17-7 lead with 0:51 remaining in the second quarter. Brunswick received the ball and took a few plays before ultimately being stopped to go into the locker room down 17-7 at halftime. 

The third quarter started off with Brunswick receiving the ball on their own 26-yard line. Feeling the pressure and momentum being in Walsh Jesuit’s favor, the Blue Devils moved down the field swiftly, but had a costly interception that set the Warriors up on Brunswick’s 22-yard line. Quarterback Keller Moten on the first play scrambled into the endzone for a 22-yard rushing touchdown to give the Warriors a 24-7 lead over the Blue Devils with 9:54 remaining in the third quarter. On their next drive, Brunswick started on their 25-yard line. Trying to make yet another push to fight back into the game, the Blue Devils’ offense was able to get into Warrior territory, but ended up being halted and shut down on Walsh Jesuit’s 40-yard line. The Warriors took advantage of this and scored yet another touchdown after going down the field, this time a 5-yard reception pass from Keller Moten to Milan Parris to make it a 31-7 Walsh Jesuit lead with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter. Brunswick started their next drive on their 10-yard line and took the ball into the fourth quarter.  

The Brunswick Blue Devil drive continued to move down the field. Walsh Jesuit forced a punt, which was then ruled roughing the punter and Brunswick got a new set of downs. The Warrior defense held strong and ended up forcing yet another Blue Devils’ punt. Walsh Jesuit got the ball back and ran the clock down, marched down the field, and scored a 10-rushing touchdown by running back Carlos Smith to give the Warriors a 38-7 lead with 2:00 remaining in the game. Brunswick got the ball back and was held as time expired, keeping the undefeated campaign alive for the Walsh Jesuit Warriors.
