Kent, Ohio – Archbishop Hoban captured their first regional championship since 1998 with a 56-37 win over Walsh Jesuit in the Division I Kent Regional final Friday night.
It was a near capacity crowd Friday night at the M.A.C. Center for Friday’s game between the two local rivals.
Hoban jumped ahead thanks to a pair of Will Scott free throws, followed by a triple from Samuel Greer. From there, the Knights carried that momentum to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Hoban went on a 7-0 run to increase their lead to 21-8. They would finish the first half up 25-14, as Jonas Nichols and Samuel Greer combined for 16 points.
Hoban managed to keep their lead at double digits throughout the second half, as they prevented the Walsh Jesuit offense from getting any sort of momentum going. The Knights led by as much as 20 before the final buzzer sounded.
Archbishop Hoban, now 23-3, advances to the state final four. They were led by junior forward Jonas Nichols, who had 18 points. Senior forward Will Scott added 11, as did freshman forward Samuel Greer.
