Walsh Jesuit shuts out Saint Ignatius, 31-0

University Heights, Ohio – The Walsh Jesuit Warriors shut out the Saint Ignatius Wildcats, 31-0, on Friday night at Shula Stadium on the campus of John Carroll University.

After the two teams traded punts to open the game, Walsh Jesuit took the lead when senior Marty Tobin had a 55-yard touchdown run.

Freddie Marcell kicked a 32 yard field goal to increase the Walsh Jesuit to 10-0. He also recovered an onside kick to give the Warriors back possession. However, the Saint Ignatius defense would come up with an interception by senior Quinn Kennedy.

David Ternosky found Milan Parris for a 40 yard catch and score to increase the Walsh Jesuit lead to 17-0 at the 7:52 mark of the second quarter.

The Wildcats got another big play on defense as Jayshon Thomas picked off a pass and returned it deep into Walsh Jesuit territory. A Marty Tobin tackle prevented the interception from being a pick six. Saint Ignatius attempted to get on the board with a 44-yard field goal attempt, but the try was blocked.

Walsh Jesuit maintain their 17-0 margin at the half.

David Ternosky threw his second touchdown of the game, this one to Vinnie Courted from eight yards out. The Walsh Jesuit lead expanded to 24-0 at the 6:33 mark of the third quarter.

Daniel Chaloub found David Cole for a long gain to put the Wildcats on the Warrior 24 yard line. But the Warrior defense made another big play, as junior Ben Biel picked off a pass. A handful of plays later, Marty Tobin broke free for an 87-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 31-0 late in the third quarter.

Tobin’s second score would turn out to be the final points of the game as the fourth quarter was scoreless for both sides.

Walsh Jesuit improves to 4-0 and hosts Canisius (New York) next Friday, September 19th.

Saint Ignatius drops to 0-4 and travels to Painesville Riverside next Friday, September 19th.
