Walsh Jesuit dominates Austintown Fitch, 58-21

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio – The Walsh Jesuit Warriors scored 44 first half points on the way to a 58-21 victory over visiting Austintown Fitch Friday night in Division II, Region 5 action.

Brock Sherman scored the first of his three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, putting Walsh Jesuit up 7-0. Buffalo commit John Keough, who made a sensational catch on the same drive, returned a punt 84 yards to paydirt, increasing the lead to 14-0.

After a DeShaun Vaughn to Anthony Perry connection cut the deficit to 14-7, putting the Falcons on the board, the Warriors scored 30 unanswered points to close out the first half. Here’s how they did it.

Ryan Demming booted a 31-yard field goal to increase the lead to 17-7. After a Fitch punt, Keller Moten rushed for a five-yard touchdown, following up a 54-yard run the previous play. In his second game back from injury, Brock Sherman ran the ball the majority of the next Warrior drive, capping it with a three-yard score.

The Warrior defense also stepped up for the cause too. Sophomore Caden Carter recovered a fumble and Sherman ran for a six-yard score, increasing the lead to 37-7. Brayden Foster also picked off a pass for the Warriors, and they capitalized, as Moten found Aiden Henry for a 27-yard touchdown reception. By the time the first half was over, Walsh Jesuit’s lead stood at 44-7.

With the running clock in effect, the two teams traded scores.

Fitch freshman running back Deon’Dray Richard rushed for a 76-yard touchdown. Walsh Jesuit countered when Keller Moten scored on the ground from 18 yards out for the second time.

In the fourth quarter, junior Lucas Weaver rushed for a ten-yard touchdown for the Warriors. One play later, senior Dan Evans III took a handoff 80 yards to the house, capping the scoring.

Walsh Jesuit advances to play against Hudson at a neutral site to be determined. Austintown Fitch sees their season end at 7-4.
