Hudson, Ohio – The Wadsworth Grizzlies defeated host Hudson Saturday afternoon, 71-53, in a Suburban League afternoon matinee.
Carter Buzzeli started the scoring with a layup for Hudson. It was the only lead the Explorers had all game. He had eight points. Solomon Callaghan add a three-pointer to give the Grizzlies a lead they would not relinquish.
Callaghan had 14 of the Grizzlies’ 17 points to help Wadsworth to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter.
They would pad their lead to 39-20 going into the halftime break. Callaghan continued to score, and Wadsworth got contributions from Maxx Bosley and Connor Sams. That, and an air-tight defense, were key to the Grizzlies padding their lead.
Hudson looked to rally going into the third quarter. They went on a 14-4 run to cut their deficit to nine, thanks to baskets from Tino Yli-Junnila and Michael Steel.
However, Wadsworth would counter with a rally of their own to put the game away.
They worked the inside very effectively, drawing fouls and taking advantage at the charity stripe.
Maxx Bosley had four free throws, and Connor Sams had five points in the third. This would push their lead to 54-37, and Wadsworth would cruise from there.
The Grizzlies had four players in double figures. Junior Solomon Callaghan had 25 points to lead all scorers. Sophomore guard Maxx Bosley had 16, senior Connor Sams had 14, and junior Caden Madigan had 12.
Wadsworth (5-3, 2-2 Suburban League National) travels to North Royalton Tuesday night to continue conference play.
Hudson (2-6, 0-4 Suburban League National) hosts Strongsville Tuesday night in a non-conference game. Junior forward Michael Steel had 12 points to lead the Explorers. Sophomore wing Tino Yli-Junnila had 11.
