PARMA HEIGHTS, OH – The Valley Forge Patriots hosted the Bay Village Rockets for some Friday night football. Bay Village could not find their rhythm for the game tonight. Valley Forge won at their home field with a final score of 42-14.
The first quarter was neck and neck the entire time. At the 9:33 minute mark, Valley Forge scored the game’s first touchdown. Connor Pozniak was the one to open the scoring on the night with a 49-yard run to the endzone. Tacking on a PAT was Patriots kicker Riley Hein. The 1st quarter ended with a score of 7-0.
The second quarter is where the Patriots came out of their shells for the night. At their lucky number, 9:30 seconds, Valley Forge scored a touchdown again. Junior quarterback Dan Kiewel got his first on the night (14-0). Shortly after, Bay Village saw their opportunity and went for it. Junior Mac Weingart got the Rockets their first TD of the night, followed by a PAT by Rockets kicker Casey Medley. The Rockets were back in the game with a score of 14-7.
The ball was in Bay Villages’ hands in the quarter’s final minutes. A fumble on the play occurred for the Rockets with 1:33 remaining in the half. Valley Forge took the ball and picked up a quick first down. After an incomplete pass in the endzone, Valley Forge scored on the next play. The touchdown by Ben Farson left only 33 seconds in the first half. Both teams went to the locker rooms with a Valley Forge 21-7 lead.
The third quarter began with an immediate Valley Forge penalty that backed up the offense. Despite the slow start out of the break, Farson led the team to a nice first down. A huge 27-yard throw by QB Dan Kiewel ensued and senior Mark Barnosky hauled it in for the fourth Patriots touchdown (28-7).
Bay Village just couldn’t find any sort of a rhythm. Two income passes, a three and out and a punt gave the ball right back to Valley Forge.
Valley Forge once again capitalized with a Justice Mansu TD. The third quarter would conclude 35-7 Patriots.
In the fourth, Connor Pozniak intercepted an attempted Bay Village pass. Valley Forge then scored their last points of the game with a Shane Warden touchdown, following a big Takye Coles 24-yard run.
Bay Village scored a final consolation touchdown in the dying embers of the game. Freshman running back Rocco Ereditario’s breakaway run made the score 42-14.
That is how tonight’s matchup would conclude.
