University School defeats Akron Firestone, 7-1

Hunting Valley, Ohio – Thanks to effective pitching and timely hitting, host University School defeated visiting Akron Firestone, 7-1, Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first inning, Firestone got a pair of runners on base due to a pair of walks. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners up 90 feet, and the Falcons were looking to jump ahead early.

However, Riley Penn got out of the jam thanks to a strikeout and groundout, and University School responded in their half of the second.

Ryan Pattison led off with a double to center field. Junior infielder (and Kent State commit) Evan Shapiro followed up with an RBI single. A bases-loaded walk brought in a second run, and Brian Elliott hit a single to right-field, increasing the lead to 3-0.

The Preppers would add another on a fielder’s choice, and led 4-0 after two innings.

Matthew McMahon increased the Prepper lead to 5-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
