UFC Fight Night Usman vs Buckley Pick Six

Here are six picks you can take to the pay window on this week’s Usman vs Buckley UFC card.

Undercard Picks

Pick Malcom Wellmaker over Kris Moutinho

Reason – Welmaker is 9-0 with only 2 of his fights going the distance.  He has some deadly finishes and Moutinho will be a sitting duck on Saturday night.

Pick Jamey-Lyn Horth over Vanessa Demopoulos

Reason – Demopoulos has lost her last two in a row and three of her last five.  Meanwhile the Canadian Horth isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire, but has a 7-2 record and “appears” to be on the rise.

Pick Michael Chiesa over Court McGhee

Reason – Court McGhee is one of those The Ultimate Fighter winners that never truly hit his potential after winning a season no one picked him too. He was an upset winner over The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 all the back in June of 2010.  Since appearing on the show, McGhee has gone 9-12.

Chiesa has had a much different path to this fight after his winning of The Ultimate Fighter Season 15 in June of 2012.  Sometimes he looks like a world beater, such as in his wins over Jim Miller, Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez, RDA, Neil Magny, Tony Ferguson and Max Griffin.  While other times he looks completely outclassed, such as in his losses to Kevin Holland, Sean Brady and Vicente Luque. A set of three straight losses he had in 2021 – 2023.  Despite that, he is the far superior fighter between the two and should win this.

Pick Ricky Simon over Cameron Smotherman

Reason –  Ricky Simon has been around the block with the UFC, as 15 of his 27 career fights have been in the Octogan.  Simon is not the kind of guy you expect to challenge for a championship anytime soon, but he does a hold win over current UFC Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvilli, and how many people can say that?

On the other side of the cage, Smotherman took this fight on less than 10 days’ notice, and shouldn’t be much of a challenge for Simon. He just fought a few weeks ago and was destroyed by Sidey in a terrible fight in which he just stood there and took a beating for 3 rounds.  It was a God-awful fight!

Main Card Picks

Qumar Sy over Alonzo Menifield

Reason – Menefield has lost 2 of his last 3 getting knocked out in both while Sy is 11-0 and finishing everyone in his path!

Mansur Abdul Malik over Cody Brundage

Reason – At 11-6, we’ve seen a little bit of both sides of the ledger for Cody Brundage, he has looked terrible against Bo Nickal and great against Julian Marquez and Zachary Reese, you truly never what you’re going to get.

As for Malik, he is 8-0 with 8 finishes and most of those coming in the first round.  Brundage is a huge step up in class for Malik, but if he can finish him quick, he will continue to move up the card.

As for the double main event.  Don’t bet on these, much too close. BUT,

My heart says Thug Rose and Kamuru Usman

My brain says Mirando Maverick and Joaquin Buckley
