UFC 274 Action and Reaction

Action – Carla Esparza defeats Rose Namajunas 48-47 in a split decision to win the UFC Women’s Strawweight championship.

Reaction – I was so excited for this fight and then absolutely nothing happened in the first two rounds yet again.  I love Joe Rogan, but he kills me sometimes.  He says, “these are people who go to a baseball game and won’t be bored”.  Well, they’re not paying $150-$250 per ticket for a nose bleed to go to a baseball game.  I’d be pissed too if I was there as a paying customer.  Horrendous first two rounds.

I’d have to give Esparza round three simply because she took down Thug Rose to start the round.  Albeit, the takedown only lasted 2 seconds before Thug was back up.  Following that, it was 4 plus more minutes of nothing as they circled.

The same thing would happen in the fourth, a brief takedown by Carla that resulted in nothing, but it counts.  Carla would have a much more effective takedown later in the round.  All in all, another boring round, four straight.  This fight was pure garbage and the fifth and final round capped off that narrative perfectly as nothing happened once again. A late Thug Rose takedown in the fifth, stole her the round.  I had it 48-47 Carla Esparza and so did 2 of the judges.
