UFC 241 Recap and Reaction

Stipe Miocic is the greatest Heavyweight in UFC History

People can argue Cain Velasquez and Randy Couture all they want, but after tonight there is no question that Stipe Miocic is the greatest heavyweight of all time in UFC history.  Perhaps Fedor Emelianko can lay claim to that in MMA history, but Stipe showed tonight that in the UFC there is no question.

Stipe is now 5-1 all time in UFC Heavyweight Title Fights, with KO’s over JDS, Daniel Cormier, Fabricio Wedumn and Alistair Overeem.  What can I say that hasn’t already been said about the now two time world champion?

He showed a massive amount of heart and intelligence tonight.  Cormier embarrassed him the first two rounds.  Cormier even picked him up and slammed him at one point.  Stipe showed no ability to stop the barrage of shots from the champ, but would not go down showing incredible chin and heart.

Stipe would then change the tide late into the third and began to show the world what he learned from the first loss.  He began to tear apart Cormier with shot after shot to the ribs in the fourth round.

He chopped down the bulky fighter to the point wear Cormier couldn’t handle the pain any longer and began to wilt.  Stipe sensed blood and went for the kill with an onslaught of left hooks to the body for the win.

This was easily of the most impressive wins of Stipes career.  He rallied from being down big early, to put Cormier out and reclaim the gold!  He switches styles mid fight and it paid off to perfection!

The fans and the UFC surely want a rubber match between the two, as they each hold a victory over the other.  Cormier is now 40 with many other avenues to make a living.  Will he go for one more payday and make everyone happy?

Or will he consult with his wife and call it day?  Time will tell, but with Jonny Bones Jones, Francis Ngannou and perhaps even Brock Lesnar next in line for Stipe, Cormier would want to make that decision sooner then later.
