UFC 239 Recap & Reaction

Jon Bones Jones wins split decision over Thiago Santos

Santos won the first and second round convincing with a variety of leg kicks that kept Jones wobbly and off balance. The problem was, that he apparently hurt his knee badly and had to cut back on his attack.

That is when Jones went to work, winning the third and fourth rounds, even bloodying Santos at one point.

All of this made for a thrilling fifth round that pretty much would decide the championship. Jones looked off all night, and I had the round going to Santos. 2 of the 3 judges disagreed, and Jones escaped in a fight a lot of people will believe he lost.

After surgery, Santos will be out at least a year if not more, and the obvious rematch may be put on hold. In the meantime, where does Jones for from here?
