by The start of the college football season is here, and this week one matchup saw the new BIG-12 team, the UCF Golden Knights taking on the new look Kent State Golden Flashes. Under new Kent State head coach, Kenni Burns.
This Kent State offseason saw the departure of many players and head coach Sean Lewis. Entering today’s game Kent State had no returning starters from last year’s team. The game had the feel of a big school going against a smaller school, as UCF won the opener by a final score of 56-6.
Kent State did not score a single touchdown in today’s game, both of their points came off two field goals made by kicker Andrew Glass, Glass was on last year’s team, and had a good 2022 season.
Kent State’s new quarterback, Michael Alaimo, who was named the starter of this team a week ago, had an okay start to his Kent State career, he threw for 145 yards on 12 completions.
The best receiver for Kent State was Chrishon McCray, McCray had three receptions, for 61 yards, and early in the game McCray had a 75-yard reception that was called back because of an illegal man downfield for the Flashes.
John Rhys Plumlee for UCF completed 22 passes off 30 attempts and had 281 passing yards, and two touchdown passes to go with them, he did throw two picks in tonight’s game.
Plumlee also rushed for 90 yards in tonight’s game showing off his athletic ability on his rushes, his longest run was 32 yards.
Johnny Richardson caught 12 passes and 100 yards receiving. UCF’s offense dominated the whole game over Kent State’ defense.
Kent State has entered a new era of football under Coach Burns and tonight’s game was not an impressive start following Coach Lewis. Kent State is Arkansas next week, it will be a tough start for the Flashes this season. This is going to be a similar season as to the 2018 season the first season Sean Lewis was at Kent State, they went 2-10 that year, expect a similar season this season.
