Trinity Trojans Feed Off the Strong Run Game to Win in Brooklyn Against the Hurricanes

Brooklyn – In this conference showdown between the Trinity Trojans and the Brooklyn Hurricanes, the Trojans came out victorious by a score of 40-12 led by the run game going on all cylinders throughout the whole night.

Brooklyn began the night off with the ball and looking to strike early.  Driving down the field with an early chunk play of 17 yards and an 11-yd run by #21 Atanacio would get them in opponent territory in the early minutes.  The Trojans defense capitalized on an erred fumble to give them the ball in solid field position at their own 40.

Establishing the run game early and often was one of the first half keys for Trinity and on the first drive #1 Kaden Robinson and #5 Aidan Duncan took turns running the ball as they would strike first with a 4-yd TD by #1 Robinson at the 5:32 mark in the 1st quarter.

Following the successful drive by the Trojans, the Hurricanes went in the wrong direction with a sack and a couple tackle for losses to pin them back.  On the punt attempt, their drive was extended by a roughing the punter to give another first down but would stall out 3 plays later and would punt the ball away for sure this time.  7-0 after 1 quarter.

The Hurricanes redeemed themselves on defense and got a stop without giving up a first down.

The Offense fed off the defense and picked their way down the field with multiple chunk plays of 10+ yards to #5 Aiden Starr and #6 Lyle Taylor to set up the 23-yd TD pass over the middle from #10 Mason Vega to #6 Taylor making the game 7-6 midway through the 2nd quarter, 2pt try would be no good.

Trinity responded quickly only running the ball down the field and QB Duncan breaking a big run down the right side for 35 yards and a TD only a minute after the Brooklyn score.

The following drive for the Trojans after a quick Hurricanes possession would go 3 plays and strike quickly again with a long 43-yd TD to #14 on only the second pass attempt of the night for the Trojans.

Brooklyn tried to go quick, but a throw that was underthrown and picked by #3 Damonte Mckenzie, and then lateralled to #5 Duncan, would lead to a wild pick-six for the Trojans.

Going into half, 27-6 Trojans lead the Hurricanes.

In the second half, the Trojans continued their dominance on the ground as they scored in the opening minutes with a 1-yd TD scamper by #1 Robinson for his 2nd TD of the night.

Brooklyn had another solid drive going but more penalties and not being able to move the ball much on the Trojan’s side of the field led to another punt.

The Trojans and #1 Robinson would not go away from the run game as they would get big plays of 25 and 13-yd runs to set up a redzone opportunity that would give Robinson the opportunity to cash in for his 3rd TD of the night and he’d get it on a 9-yd TD run to make it 40-6, Trojans.

The Hurricanes, searching for answers and an offensive spark, weren’t able to do just that and threw another INT, this time to #2 Lance Hudson, giving the ball right back to Trinity.

The Trojans would chew close to 8 minutes off the clock on their ensuing drive but would turn the ball over on downs inside the Hurricanes 30-yard line.

With the running clock still going and Brooklyn seeming to just chew the rest of the game out, on the last play of the game #21 Lennox Atanacio took the ball right side down the sidelines, evading multiple tackles and going 83 yards for a TD as time expired.

At full time, the Trojans win big 40-12, but the Hurricanes take a spark and some life into week 9.
