With the NFL Draft completed and OTA’s already under way, the NFL Free agency class is pretty dwindled down, but there are still a few big names out there that would look fantastic in a Cleveland Browns jersey, in fact, several of them have already worn one once in their careers.
Let’s look at some big names that could still find a home in Cleveland before opening week in September arrives.
Wide Receivers
Targets – Keenan Allen, Gabriel Davis and Amari Cooper.
Reason – Cooper balled out in his one season playing with Joe Flacco in Cleveland, why not give it another run and see how it all shakes out. They have nothing to lose and Cooper has proven he can do big things in the Kevin Stefanski system.
Allen may only have two seasons left in his NFL career, but for a guy with 66 career touchdowns and 11,274 career receiving yards on 974 catches, the Browns would be foolish to not at least shake a stick at his agent and see what may happen.
Edge Rushers
Targets – Za’Darius Smith, Matthew Judon and Von Miller.
Reason – Smith played well opposite of Myles Garret during his previous stint here and would fit right back in the scheme without a problem. Von Miller brings 2 Super Bowl rings with him and veteran championship pedigree to a lock room that badly needs it.
The Browns passed on Penn States Abdul Carter who was easily the best pass rusher in the NFL Draft this past spring, why not bring in one of these names for added security and depth? Fans may clamor to bring back Jadeveon Clowney, but I’d pass hard on him, he was an absolute cancer the last time he was in Cleveland.
Secondary
Targets – Stephon Gilmore, Justin Simmons and Jaire Alexander
Reason – I will keep this one short and simple, the Browns secondary has been burned worse than any other team going all the way back to the 2022-2023 season. Denzel Ward is injury proof, Greg Newsome is trade bait and Martin Emerson is a nickel cornerback, not a CB2. They need a veteran leader who can shut down receivers. They didn’t address it in free agency or the NFL Draft, time is running out.
