Top 10 WWE SummerSlams Of All Time

Summerslam 1991

The 4th annual Summerslam took place at the same location it all started, New York’s Madison Square Garden.  It is widely regarded as the one of the top Summerslam’s of all time as it was loaded with memorable moments and matches.

Top billing went to the wedding of Macho Man Randy Savage and Ms. Elizabeth. It goes down as the only wedding ceremony in pro wrestling history that actually went off without a hitch.

We can’t say the same for the reception however, as it was crashed by Jake the Snake Roberts and The Undertaker in an act of true evil. This would begin an epic feud between Savage and Roberts that led to a return from retirement by Savage, and eventually a face turn for The Undertaker.

The wedding was billed as The Match Made in Heaven while the in ring main event of the Triangle of Terror vs Hogan & Warrior was the Match Made in Hell.

Not exactly a mat classic, this one did stand out as the Warriors last appearance for nearly 9 months as Vince McMahon fired him after the show. Warrior had tried to hold him up for more money.

It also featured the WWF debut of Sid Justice. He would go on to become “Psycho Sid” and along with Ric Flair, become a top villain in the company.

One of the reasons many consider this one of the greatest, if not THE GREATEST Summerslam of all time is because of the stacked undercard that saw all of the following occur.

Legion of Doom defeat the Nasty Boys in a street fight to become the new WWF Tag Team Champions.

Bret Hart defeat Mr. Perfect in an instant classic to become the new Intercontinental champion.

Virgil upend Ted Dibase to become the new Million Dollar Champion.

The Big Bossman defeating the Mountie in a Jailhouse Rocks match. The result being the Mountie having to spend a night in jail.

Other highlights included The Natural Disasters squashing the Bushwackers, along with Bobby the Brian Heenan announcing Ric Flair has signed with the WWF.

There was no doubt about it. This was one of the greatest WWF Pay Per Views of all time.
