The overcast
The Toledo Rockets last season had the highest scoring offense in the MAC led by QB Dequan Finn who had a breakout Redshirt freshman season. Finn led the Rockets in rushing and passing as they finished third in the MAC West title race last season. Transfer RB from Maryland Peny Boone is a runner and a pass catcher out of the back field that can help the Rockets become more dynamic. The WR room lost five of its top six from the past season, that being said the WR room is still strong this year with redshirt FR Thomas Zsiro and SO Jerjuan Newton as the projected one and two. The defense is the best it has looked in years, Dyontae Johnson and Jamal Hines are two seniors that look to lead this defense to what looks to be the top defense in the conference.
Dom’s outlook
The Rockets have the most talented team in the conference, they return the highest scoring offense from last season and a defense that could be lights out this season. The first two games they play against Long Island and UMass, the Rockets could show how dominant they can be. Week four the Rockets go across the country to play San Diego State, this will be a solid measuring stick against a strong opponent who was ranked last season. Toledo could start the season 3-1 against non-conference opponents. Last season three of their six losses were from non-conference teams.
Predictions
This could be a season where the Rockets chase 10 wins, a MAC championship, and a bowl game. I predict that the Rockets will do all three with a 10-2 record and the winners of the MAC with loses to Ohio St and Central Mich. A win at San Diego will be tough, but if the Rockets are as good as the roster says, they should be able to pull it off.
