ROCKY RIVER- It was all Cardinals as Mentor flew past Olmsted Falls 8-3 in the opening game of day two of the Tim Alexander Memorial tournament. Mentor overcame a 2-1 deficit after the first period to cruise to their second victory of the tournament. With the win the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the weekend while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2. 8 different players scored for Mentor.
Mentor drew first blood halfway through the first period when Mitchell Elliot found the back of the net. The Bulldogs wouldn’t stay behind long however as they would score two of their own in the next 90 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. The goals came off the sticks of Zach Henley and Thomas Terrell. They would take the 2-1 lead into the break.
In their game last night, the second period was the major problem for the Bulldogs getting outscored by Rocky River 5-0. This morning was much the same as the Cardinals blasted past the Bulldogs 5-0 in the second to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the third. The goals came fast and furious by Kyle Backston, Tyler Velioniskis, Andrew McBride, Luke Jeffrey and Mitchell Massey.
The third period was much of the same as goals by Cameron Mocny and Eric Toth put it away for good at 8-2. Falls would score once more by Colin Wilson to cut it to 8-3 as time expired.
