ROCKY RIVER, OHIO – Several defensive breakdowns kept Solon goaltender Michael Nagy frustrated and overwhelmed all game as the Avon Eagles soared past the Comets 7-0. The Eagles improved to 1-1 on the weekend and will next play Rocky River tonight at 7:15.
The Comets fall to 1-1 on the weekend as they next play at 5:30 against Olmsted Falls. This was game three of day two of the Tim Alexander Memorial Tournament.
After two periods, Nick Koepp already had a hat trick and the Eagles were firmly in command. Koepps first goal came midway through the first period with the Eagles already up 1-0 after a Mike Perusek goal broke the ice earlier in the period. Ian Dargai would score with only 38 seconds remaining and hand Avon a 3-0 lead to take into the break.
It was more of the same in the second period as once again Avon took advantage of every solon mistake and breakdown to build the lead even further.
After a Connor Wing goal made it 4-0, two more Koepp goals put the game completely out of reach 6-0 as the teams headed to the locker room to get ready for the final period.
The Eagles continued to pour it on in the third, scoring 1 more time to close it out 7-0. Congrats to Avon goaltender Kyli Warnkin on the shutout performance.
