Week 9 was upon us at First Federal Lakewood Stadium. The 3-5 Lakewood Rangers took on the 5-3 Valley Forge Patriots. The Patriots came in looking to get their second win in a row, while Lakewood tried to stop themselves from losing 2 straight.
Valley Forge dominated the game thanks to touchdowns by Shane Warden, Ben Farson and Elijah Williams.
Warden had a great night as the primary ball carrier for the Patriots. He had 16 carries for 127yards (7.93 yards per carry) 3 TDs and 1 reception for 6 yards.
Warden had the compliment on the ground of Ben Farson, who carried the ball 5 times for 22 yards (4.4 yards per carry) 1 TD and 1 INT. As well as Elijah Williams who had 4 carries for 80 yards (20 yards per carry) and 2 rushing TDs.
Lakewood had a tough night moving the ball until late in the game. Alex Symons was the primary ball carrier for the Rangers with 11 carries for -2 yards and was 5/10 in the air 99 yards and 2 TDs.
The Patriots had what looked like they were going to be off to a quick start. The trio of Farson, Warden and Barnosky pushed the ball 70 yards combined down the field only to have their opening drive stopped at the Lakewood 5 as Ben Farson was tripped up, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Rangers were unable to capitalize on the turnover, instead going 3 and out, which forced Lakewood to punt 5 yards deep in their own endzone. The Lakewood punt was 42 yards, setting Valley Forge on the Lakewood 37 to start their next possession. It only took the Patriots 3 plays to capitalize off of the excellent field position. Dan Kiewel handed off to Shane Warden, who shot out to the right side for 19 yards, setting up a 9 yard run by Warden for the TD.
The Patriots struck again when Dan Kiewel connected with Elijah Williams from 63 yards. That put the Patriots up 14-0. Valley Forge would go on to score 3 more touchdowns in the first half. 2 of those were from Shane Warden from 1 yard and 16 yards, while the third came from Ben Farson who took it in from 7. Patriots 35-0 at the half.
Lakewood started the second half with the ball and a running clock. The Rangers put together a promising drive, taking the ball 64 yards down the field, all the way down to the Patriot 16 yard line. The next play Lakewood QB Alex Symons threw the ball near the endzone, only to have the ball intercepted by Ben Farson, who would take the ball all the way to midfield. The Valley Forge drive ended on an 8 yard rush by Elijah Williams to put the Patriots up 42-0.
The Rangers only needed 2 plays the next drive, culminating in a huge 65 yard TD pass to Mason Ivinskas to put the Rangers on the board at 42-7. That is where we stood after 3 quarters in the book.
Symons and the Rangers would strike again when Symons found Jaylen Chappell for a 34 yard TD. Lakewood’s PAT was good 42-14 Patriots.
You’re Final from First Federal Lakewood Stadium, the Valley Forge Patriots 42 Lakewood Rangers 7.
