The Top 25 Running Backs in NFL History.

#20: LeSean McCoy, PHI, BUF, KC, TB | Pittsburgh | ‘09-’20 | 5’11 210

Shady McCoy was another Running Back I loved to watch growing up, he was one of the most agile and athletic players I had ever seen. He had some of the greatest highlight reel plays of all time, he had a killer juke move and could evade almost any defender that came his way. McCoy was also a good receiving back throughout his career.

Stats: 11,102 Rush Yds, 73 TD, 3,898 Rec Yds, 16 TD

Best Year (2013): 314 Rush, 1,607 Rush Yds, 9 TD, 52 Rec, 539 Rec Yds, 2 TD

Accolades: 6x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro, 1x Rushing Title, 1x TD Leader, 2x SB Champ

#19: Edgerrin James, IND, ARI, SEA | Miami (FL) | ‘99-’09 | 6’0 219

It was very unfortunate that the Colts won the Super Bowl the year after Edgerrin James went to the Arizona Cardinals in 2006. Despite that situation, James came into the NFL and made an instant impact making All-Pro 1st Team in his rookie year. James was great all around and that included multiple 500 yard plus seasons.

Stats: 12,246 Rush Yds, 80 TD, 3,364 Rec Yds, 11 TD

Best Year (2000): 387 Rush, 1,709 Rush Yds, 13 TD, 63 Rec, 594 Rec Yds, 5 TD

Accolades: HOF, 4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro, 2x Rushing Title

#18: Priest Holmes, BAL, KC | Texas | ‘97-’07 | 5’9 213

Priest Holmes didn’t have a very long peak, but my goodness it was absolutely incredible. Holmes had three consecutive seasons with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage and racked up 20 or more touchdowns in two of those years. Holmes is one of the most underrated players in history and he should be talked about way more than he is.

Stats: 8,172 Rush Yds, 86 TD, 2,962 Rec Yds, 8 TD

Best Year (2003): 320 Rush, 1,420 Rush Yds, 27 TD, 74 Rec, 690 Rec Yds, 0 TD

Accolades: 1x OPOY, 3x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, 1x Rushing Title, 2x TD Leader, 1x SB Champ

#17: Marcus Allen, OAK, KC | USC | ‘82-’97 | 6’2 210

Marcus Allen is a bit overrated in my eyes, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a fantastic player. He only had three career 1,000 yard rushing seasons, but the MVP Award he won, helps his case greatly. Allen was a good receiver as well, but as I said, just because he’s a little bit overrated, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame.

Stats: 12,243 Rush Yds, 123 TD, 5,411 Rec Yds, 11 TD

Best Year (1985): 380 Rush, 1,759 Rush Yds, 11 TD, 67 Rec, 555 Rec Yds, 3 TD (MVP)

Accolades: HOF, 1x MVP, 1x OPOY, 6x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro, 1x Rushing Title, 2x TD Leader, 1x SB Champ, 1x SB MVP

#16: Tony Dorsett, DAL, DEN | Pittsburgh | ‘77-’88 | 5’11 192

Tony Dorsett was an absolute speedster and he truly was ahead of his time. Dorsett really is underrated in a way and should be mentioned more. He was a very consistent Running Back and is in the Hall of Fame as he should be, many would put him higher than this, but I can’t do it due to the amount of talent the position has.

Stats: 12,739 Rush Yds, 77 TD, 3,554 Rec Yds, 13 TD

Best Year (1981): 342 Rush, 1,646 Rush Yds, 4 TD, 32 Rec, 325 Rec Yds, 2 TD

Accolades: HOF, 4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro, 1x SB Champ
