The OBJ Problem: Who’s Fault Is It?

Freddie Kitchens is the biggest reason for the decline in the play of OBJ. It’s just that simple. When you’re working with a bad offensive line and a lack of downfield weapons, you run shorter patterns.

Far too many times they are trying deep balls with OBJ. He doesn’t have time to get open downfield because Baker doesn’t have time to throw. The play calling has been horrendous. He does his best work in the seem 10-15 yards out along with slants.

And if you know the guy is hurt, call plays for him that make sense, not homerun balls.

He is quick, has incredible hands and knows what to do after he catches the ball. It is just frustrating beyond belief to see the play calling. Run the ball more, force teams to stack the box and Landry & OBJ will get open more.

When you have a terrible line, call shorter routes. It should be so easy!

Freddie Kitchens has to go, he hasn’t learned from his mistakes and appears to be too stubborn to even admit he has made any. If after 13 games and a full offseason he hasn’t figured it out, it’s not going to happen.

I’m all for consistency at GM and coach, it is badly needed for any franchise to succeed. But don’t be foolish, Kitchens is not ready. So before OBJ is completely wasted, start next year fresh and see what can happen with a competent play caller.
