The Brecksville Bees traveled to Nordonia to take on the Knights in this edition of Friday Night Lights. Nordonia was led by Senior Quarterback Joey Palinkas who went 21/29 with 310 yards and two touchdowns. Palinkas also ran the ball twice for 40 yards. His favorite target was fellow Senior Wideout Craig Aiken. Aiken had 7 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Brecksville had some production from Junior Colin Seibert who went 13/30 for 155 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. His favorite target was Senior wideout Montee Doubler who had 6 catches for 40 yards and a touchdown. Nordonia would win the game 45-7.
The first quarter of play saw the Bees go three and out on their first possession. The Knights took over and it looked as if it was going to go the same way, but they would fake a punt on fourth down and convert. In the end, they could not do anything after that and were forced to punt.
However, the offense would pick up thanks to Brecksville Junior QB Collin Seibert. He led his team to score the first points of the game on a 17 yard passing touchdown to Senior wideout Montee Doubler. The Bees led 7-0 with 5:25 remaining in the quarter. Nordonia’s next possession would look better than their first. Senior QB Joey Palinkas would drive them down the field, but the Knights would be forced to kick a field goal. The Bees still led 7-3 late in the first.
The Knights would catch a huge break as on the Bees next drive, Knights Linebacker Logan Villamagna would intercept the pass! The Knights took over and shortly after, QB Joey Palinkas would find Junior wideout Israel Petite for a 27 yard passing touchdown. Nordonia led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Nordonia would have the ball and put up a beautiful drive. Palinkas led the team down the field with both his arm and legs. The Knights got it to the one yard line but faced a fourth and goal. On fourth and goal Junior QB Brenden Hermensky would plow forward for a one yard touchdown. Nordonia expanded the lead to 17-7 with 7:48 remaining in the half.
Brecksville could not get anything going on their drives. Nordonia on the other hand was moving the ball easily. Palinkas was finding the open man often. Especially on a 51 yard gain on a pass to Junior wideout Mike Ebert. Shortly after that, Palinkas would find Senior wideout Craig Aiken for an 11 yard receiving touchdown. Nordonia led 24-7 with 4:40 left in the half.
The disaster continued for the Bees as Colin Seibert would throw his second interception of the game, this time it was Vince Natali would pick him off and he would return it 33 yards for a touchdown. Nordonia led 31-7 with 3:40 remaining in the half.
Brecksville would be driving near the end of the half and got into the red zone thanks to a SICK one handed snag by Senior wideout Logan Doskocil. The Knights defense stood strong though and the Bees faced a fourth and twenty thanks to a huge sack by Nordonia. The Bees would not convert and Nordonia took over at their own 20 yard line with 50 seconds in the half. Palinkas would get them inside the red zone in two plays! In the second of those two plays a screen pass was drawn up and Senior Running back Gino Perrine would take it 54 yards! But, on the next play The Palinkas would make his first mistake of the game and throw an interception to end the half. Nordonia led 31-7 at half.
Coming out of the half Nordonia drove down the field thanks to the Senior duo of Palinkas and Craig Aiken. They connected four times in a row for a total of 60 yards to get to the two yard line. From there, Sophomore Running back Rocco DeLorenzo would score a two yard rushing touchdown making it 38-7 Nordonia leading with 8:27 left in the third.
The Bees could not get anything going at all since their second possession of the game. Meanwhile, Nordonia put in their backup QB, Sophomore Ben Chesser who led a nice drive. At the end of that drive, Senior Running back Gino Perrine would score a five yard rushing touchdown. Nordonia led 45-7 at the end of the third.
In the final quarter of play there was a running clock and the teams were in a punt off. Three and outs were frequent throughout the last quarter. Nordonia would come out on top 45-7.
