The NDCL Lions Storm to a 15-6 Victory Over The Competitive Padua Bruins

The Notre Dame-Cathedral Catholic Lions girl’s Lacrosse team squared off in a battle against the Padua Franciscan Bruins at the Bruins home field. This happened to be the Bruins’ first game of the year and the Lions’ third game of the year. As The Bruins were seeking the first win of the season at 0-0, so were the Lions at 0-2. Both teams came in with maximum intensity with the same goal in mind and that was to walk away the victor of this conference game.

This game started of fast paced, as NDCL’s Maggie Kane scored the first goal within the first 3 minutes of the first period. Maggie Kane became a familiar name in this game as she ended with four goals total, making it look easy as she sprinted the field with the intent to score every single time.  Another familiar name for NDCL was #12, Grace Hinkel who led the team in total goals with 3 goals per half(6 total).

Grace and Maggie were on a roll the entire game and were poised to end the losing streak and bring a win back home for the Lions. Other scores came Ava Abounader who had 2 goals, one early in the second period and the half way point of the third period. Nancy Pierce added to the score early as well in the second period. Catherine Melin and Marianne McGuigan scored goals later in the 2nd half. NDCL displayed a full team effort as every player contributed effectively whether it was offensively or defensively. The defense was staggering as they held the Bruins to six points.

As for the Padua Bruins, they tried to keep it as competitive as possible, keeping the game close early on. The defense was locked in at times but could not make anything consistent of it and that ultimately ended up being the problem for them as NDCL dissected them multiple times. They were able to rack up six total goals with some back and forth action occurring in the fourth period. Names like Isabella Geffert, Ava Schmidt, Ava Bonfili, Smilla Cohagan all added toward the six points but they were simply outmatched by a better team tonight.

While both teams look to move on to their next matchups, there probably will be a lot of film watch on both sides to workout the kinks in their game. There are lessons in everything,  so I have no doubt that the Bruins will bounce back from this with some good preparation and make up for this loss.
