The Midview Middies hosted the Berea-Midpark Titans for a rainy Friday night matchup under the lights. The Middies came into tonight’s game looking to bounce back following back-to-back losses at the hands of the Amherst Comets and the Avon Lake Shoremen. The Berea-Midpark Titans were also looking for a win following a series of losses. The rain played a major factor in this defensive stalemate, but the Midview Middies walked away victorious with a score of 16-7.
The Berea-Midpark Titans got off to a quick start. After forcing the Middies to a quick 3-and-out, senior quarterback, Danny Bowser led his offense into the endzone. Bowser opened the drive with an 8-yard completion to sophomore wide receiver, Tyson Clay. The Titans moved downfield on a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty on the Middies. Bowser handed the ball off to senior safety, Justin McDonell for a quick 5-yard gain and then followed with a 8-yard quarterback keeper to secure the Titan 1st down.
A series of short runs helped the Titans to continue to move downfield and secure multiple 1st downs. Bowser had the Middies’ defense confused as he faked the hand off and found a wide-open sophomore wide receiver, Nick Reece and threw an 11-yard completion to secure another 1st down and put the Titans into the RedZone. Despite a 3-yard loss on a sack, Bowser was able to get the job done. Bowser threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior running back, Jayvion Showers. Senior kicker, Jalen Ball came on and scored the extra point, making the score 7-0 with 4:18 left in the 1st quarter.
The rain started to pick up as the Titans attempted a fake punt that was unsuccessful due to a slip and fall. The Middies began in the Titans territory to start off their drive. Junior quarterback Shay Williams handed the ball off to junior running back, Marcus McMahon for a 3yd gain. Williams followed by handing the ball off to junior running back, Michael Passerrello Jr who picked up another 3-yard gain. Williams found a hole in the defense and raced into the endzone for a 42-yar rushing touchdown. Senior kicker, Ethan Morris came on and scored the extra point, tying the game at 7-7 with 11:23 left in the half.
The rain kept both offenses quiet for the rest of the 1st half. The Middies had some challenges with ball security after fumbling ball twice. Sophomore cornerback, Mayson Nichols- Price had an impressive interception to give the ball back to the Titans. The Middies’ defense kept the Titans offense at bay and did not allow a single point.
The rain started to lighten up following half time. After forcing the Titans to a 3-and-out, the Middies took the field with a sense of urgency. Williams started off the drive with a loss of 6-yards. He bounced back by racing past the Titans defense for a 16-yard gain and a 1st down. Williams handed the ball off to Passerrello Jr who picked up another 7-yard gain, putting the Middies into the RedZone. A series of short runs inched the Middies closer to the endzone. Williams handed the ball off to Passerrello Jr who rushed into the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was failed on a fumbled snap, making the score 13-7, with 7:33 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Middies extended to their lead in the middle of the 4th quarter. Williams handed the ball off to Passerrello Jr who picked up a 6-yard gain to begin the drive. The Middies were able to overcome a 10-yard holding penalty with a 13-yard carry by Williams and a 9-yard carry by Passerrello Jr to give the Middies the 1st down.
Williams handed the ball off to Passerrello Jr who raced into the RedZone with a 13-yard carry. The Titans’ defense forced the Middies to settle on a field goal. Ethan Morris came on and kicked the 28-yard field goal, putting the score at 16-7 with 3:07 left in the game.
This week’s player of the game was quarterback Shay Williams of the Midview Middies. He led his offense through the storm to pick up another win, rushing for 137-yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
Next week, the Midview Middies look to add on another win as they travel to North Ridgeville to take on the Rangers. The Berea-Midpark Titans look to bounce back next week as they travel to Avon to take on the undefeated Eagles.
