NORDONIA, Ohio – The Lutheran East Falcons claim the division four district title in a marvelous win over the Holy Name Green Wave, 54-45.
The first quarter started off a little slow, low baskets accompanied by more one-on-one action on the court. Jordynn Jackson, sophomore on the Falcons, scored the first two points of the game. In response, the Green Wave took control of the ball scoring four points back-to-back. Jordan Cremona, sophomore on the Green Wave, scored those points. She had a total of ten points scored during the game. The score stayed 5-5 for almost the entire first quarter.
Lutheran East made a push for the lead, and they were successful. Taliyah Pollard, freshman on the Falcons, scored a three-pointer to aid the lead. Pollard scored 12 points total. With a few more good plays from the Falcons, they went into the second quarter still in the lead, 15-11.
The Falcons continued to dominate the first half of the game. As the second quarter started, Lutheran East started extending the lead even further. Maliona Martin, sophomore on the Falcons, scored five of her total 14 points in the beginning of the second quarter. Martin was a force for the Falcons, and showed up when they needed it most.
The Green Wave didn’t give up, though. Junior, Claire Colijohn, of the Green Wave, helped out her team in an immense way. Colijohn managed to score 19 points total. She played great offense, and took advantage of possession of the ball. However, the Falcons went into halftime with a 29-19 lead over the Green Wave.
The second half started with some big plays from the Green Wave. Jordan Cremona, sophomore for the Green Wave, scored a two-pointer to get the quarter going. Cremona scored 10 points total. Claire Colijohn was the main point scorer during the third quarter for the Green Wave. Even with a good offensive push from the Green Wave, Lutheran East was still in the lead heading into the final quarter.
Holy Name gave their best fight. They started the fourth with three baskets back-to-back. Layla Rudolph, senior on the Green Wave, scored two of her five points total. Quickly after, the Falcons took control of the ball, and managed to stretch the lead all the way until the end. The Falcons won the game, 54-45.
