SOLON, OH – BBHS Bee’s claimed another victory as they took down the Solon Comets Saturday evening, pulling away 62-53 with a dominating second-half performance. This brought them to 13-3 on the year.

Solon came out hot, as the Bee’s didn’t seem like they had an answer to Solon’s offense run by Junior Kaylie Gaiter-Davis, who started the game with back-to-back threes, and looked as if they couldn’t miss. She was the glue in the Bee’s offense as she could drive to the basket extremely well and make big shots when needed. It was a very back-and-forth first half as the ball flew, girls dove, and they headed into the break with Solon leading 26-24, making it anyone’s game.

Coming out of halftime, it was all Caiya La; she hit a big three on the first possession, and had an and-one layup, which was a complete momentum shift for the bees. Head Coach Joe Zenir said after the game,

“Caiya La is special. There were one or two breaking points for us throughout the game, but she just took over. She just has a different type of mentality and stays calm and cool under pressure. She is just a special type of player.”

This statement couldn’t be more true as she had 26 points in this outing with 4 clutch threes, she was a complete game-changer for Breckville, and was the clear leader on both sides of the court. The 10 unanswered points were helped by Junior Jossie Hackney, who was a key player in this game with 12 points and 13 rebounds, as she seemed to pick up every missed basket.

“This is a special group of kids, and I am really proud of them. A lot of girls are playing very crucial roles on the team, and that is how high school sports are supposed to be. It is their time to shine and their stepping into leadership roles . Mya Woods, Lexi Ganley, and Anna Zumwalt are the best leaders we could ask for, and the kids show up everyday and work hard day in and day out, while having fun everyday.”– Head Coach Joe Zenir

Ending the 3rd, the Bees’ offense looked unstoppable, but the Comets still were putting up a fight, going into the 4th quarter at 44-40 but the Bees clearly had more energy. With a very intense and emotional 4th quarter, the Bees were able to continue their momentum, gliding into a 62-53 victory.

They will be hosting Twinsburg on Wednesday, hoping to keep these victories rolling, as Solon travels to Wadsworth, hoping to bounce back from this loss.
