2003 – Week 5 33-13 at Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football!
Can you think of a bigger feel good victory than this one? I sure can’t. The season was a depressing disaster as they finished 5-11 but, on this night,, they could do no wrong! Tim Couch starting for the injured Kelly Holcomb had a huge night.
Couch went off for two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. It was the last time he ever looked good as a starting quarterback in the NFL, but he sure made it count! Daylon McCutcheon had a 75-yard interception return to paydirt to put the game away in what turned out to be a blowout!
2004 Week One 20-3 Over Baltimore
The only time in the new Cleveland Browns era they won their season opener. Also, one of the very few times they won their home opener. They dominated Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens from the first snap on.
Up 3-0 at the half, the Browns began to get moving in the second half. A 46-yard Jeff Garcia to Quincy Morgan touchdown pass broke the 3-3 tie very late into the third quarter. A Jeff Garcia touchdown run late in the fourth would put them ahead for good.
The Browns had a proven veteran quarterback in Jeff Garcia. A head coach in his fourth season at the helm in Butch Davis. It looked like it would be their season to get back to the playoffs. It wasn’t as Butch Davis was gone by week 12 and Jeff Garcia took his last snap of the season week 11.
2005 Week 14 14 9-7 at Oakland
This may be a silly one, but with this team you take small victories. Rookie Quarterback Charlie Frye led a last second drive to help the Browns win on the road with a walkoff Phil Dawson field goal. They were down 7-0 late in the second quarter before the comeback began.
Run willie run by a landslide. None of the others led to anything . I actually cried when he broke loose for the 64 yarder (I flew in to see it)
