Night One
Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross win the tag Team Championships from Asuka & Kari Sane in a 15-minute wrestling clinic. This match needed to deliver considering it was the first Mania match without fans on the grandest stage. These four women hit a homerun with this one as the match delivered exactly what they needed it to.
The Becky Lynch versus Shayna Baszler match ended up being a bit of a letdown at only 8:30 in length, but the Lynch entrance on a Semi Truck was cool and memorable.
John Morrison retains the WWE Smackdown Tag Champions in a ladder match with Kofi Kingston and Jimmy Uso. This match was great, plenty of high spots. It proved that if a ladder match is done right, it doesn’t need the oohs and aahs of the crowd to still be extremely entertaining.
The Boneyard Match turns out to be The Undertakers retirement match. In the WWE’s first attempt at Cinema, it would go down as The Undertakers Last Ride. While I personally didn’t like this “movie”, it seemed to be a hit with the fans. With that being the case, it goes down as a moment for many.
The best part of Night One, was the 17 plus minute, absolute classic between Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens. It was almost stopped halfway through, and we’re glad it wasn’t because the second half of this fight was incredible. This No DQ match would climax with Kevin Ownes leaping off the WrestleMania sign to put Rollins through a table.
There were 9 total matches on night 1. 5 gave us moments, and 4 were total duds.
