GRAFTON, OH – The Midview Middies hosted the Berea-Midpark Titans at Ross Field on Friday night. The Titans came in looking for another win after their incredible team win last week against Amherst. The Middies came in looking to bounce back after a loss to Avon Lake last week. The Titans eventually came out on top 38-21. Senior quarterback Troy Shick, junior wide receiver Austin Clay and senior tight end Josh Medina all played crucial roles in the Titans win.
Troy Shick had another great game this week! His leadership guided the Titans offense in their win. His speed and accurate passes contributed to the Titans success. Shick threw an impressive 17-yard touchdown pass to get the Titans offense rolling. His most impressive play of the night was the 80-yard touchdown pass that he threw to Austin Clay. Shick was 15 for 26 and threw for 332 yards.
Austin Clay also had a remarkable game. He was key in the Titans great team win. He scored two of the Titans three touchdowns. His speed and athleticism helped him to make incredible plays during the game. He had a 48-yard reception for a touchdown and he also had an incredible 80-yard reception for a touchdown. Clay had 6 receptions for 196 yards.
Josh Medina was a weapon on both offense and defense tonight. Medina scored three out of the Titans five touchdowns tonight. He had a 17-yard reception for a touchdown and a 23-yard reception for a touchdown. Medina was a big part of the Titans defense and had a key interception that gave the ball back to the Titans. Medina had 5 receptions for 63 yards.
The Middies gained momentum from an interception by sophomore defensive back Aaron Cole on the Titans first drive. The Middies struck first and scored on their second drive of the night. Senior quarterback Marc Reed led the offense into the end zone with his quick decision making and speed.
A strong run game helped the Middies run right into the end zone. The Middies started their drive off with an 8-yard run by senior running back James Ansel. Ansel could not be stopped by the Titans defense as he had another 14-yard carry to get the first down for the Middies.
The duo of Reed and Ansel moved the Middies downfield with their speed. Ansel had a 10-yard run that put the Middies into the red zone. Marc Reed carried the ball 5 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. Sophomore kicker Ethan Morris came on and scored the extra point and put the Middies on top 7-0 with 2:40 left in the first quarter.
The Titans answered right back on their next drive. Senior quarterback Troy Shick got the energy going for the Titans after he threw a 15-yard completion to junior wide receiver Brayden Cupach. Shick threw another perfect completion to junior wide receiver Austin Clay for 7 yards.
Senior running back Hudson Devins had an 11-yard carry to put the Titans into the red zone. Shick threw a 17-yard completion to senior tight end Josh Medina into the end zone for a touchdown. Senior kicker, Nikola Rabljenovic came on and scored the extra point, tying the Middies 7-7 with 9:59 left in the half.
Troy Shick kept the Titans momentum rolling with a 19-yard completion to junior wide receiver Austin Clay. Shick was on point on his next down after he found Cupach for an 18-yard completion to give the Titans another first down. Shick put the Titans into the red zone with a 10-yard completion to senior tight end Josh Medina.
Shick put his speed on display with an 8-yard carry to put the Titans even closer to the end zone. Shick linked up with Medina again for a 5-yard touchdown to put the Titans on the board. The Titans took the lead 14-7 with 4:02 left in the half.
The Middies answered right back with another impressive drive. Marc Reed threw an incredible 62-yard touchdown completion to senior wide receiver Mason Kucera to score the Middies second touchdown of the game. Ethan Morris came on with another perfect kick for the extra point to tie the Titans. The score was 14-14 with 3:47 left in the half.
Despite giving up a score the Titans came right back out swinging. Shick kept the team right in the game with a 34-yard completion to Clay. The duo of Shick and Clay broke the tie after Shick threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Clay to put the Titans back on top. Rabljenovic came on and added the extra point and the Titans found themselves up 21-14 with only 2:19 left in the half.
Both the offense and the defense for the Titans contributed to their success on the field. Senior defensive back Tom Modarski was an important defensive weapon for the Titans. After the Titans impressive drive, Modarski got the ball right back in the Titans possession with an interception.
Shick threw a 32-yard completion to junior wide receiver Chase Stackhouse to put the Titans into the red zone. The tenacious Middie defense forced the Titans to settle for a field goal. Nikola Rabljenovic hit the 22-yard field goal for the Titans to extend their lead to 24-14 with only 22.5 seconds left in the half.
Josh Medina got things going for the Titans defensively and offensively. On the Middies first drive of the second half, Medina intercepted the ball from Marc Reed.
The Titans offense capitalized on the interception and extended their lead. Hudson Devins carried the ball 16 yards to put the Titans closer to the end zone. Medina had a 23-yard touchdown reception to extend the Titans lead. Rabljenovic continued his perfect night with another perfect kick to get the extra point for the Titans. The Titans extended their lead to 31-14 with 7:56 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Titans kept on rolling into their next drive. It took one play for the Titans to find themselves back in the end zone. Troy Shick thew an 80-yard touchdown pass to Austin Clay to extend the Titans lead. Rabljenovic’s kick extended the Titans’ lead to 38-14 with 2:17 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Middies kept fighting until the end. Senior quarterback Ethan Beitel had a 27-yard carry to get the momentum going for the Middies. Beitel combined with James Ansel. After a drive filled with speed and grit, Kucera ran into the end zone to score the touchdown for the Middies. Ethan Morris came back on and continued his perfect night, scoring the extra point for the Middies, putting the score at 38-21 with 4:03 left in the game.
The player of the game for this week was Josh Medina. Medina got it done on both sides of the ball tonight. He had 5 receptions for 36-yards and 1 interception. He scored 3 out of the 5 touchdowns for the Titans. Medina had an amazing game and his grit and competitive spirit made him the player of the game.
Next week, the Berea-Midpark Titans look for their 3rd win in a row as they travel to Avon to play the Eagles on Friday October 7th, 2022. The Midview Middies look to bounce back next week as they travel to North Ridgeville to take on the Rangers on October 7, 2022.
