The Bachelorette: Does Winning Actually Matter?

It is not if you win or lose, but how you play the game.  If winning doesn’t matter, why do they keep score?  Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat.  It doesn’t matter what cliché you want to hang your hat on is, winning in today’s day and age where everyone get’s a participation trophy just for showing up, is more debatable now than ever.

That brings me to tonights episode of the Bachelorette with Michelle.  Is this just a show where things are scripted and the big picture never comes into play, or does winning actually matter?  Do you really need to compete, or do you just need to show up, cry on command and have the best sob story to go with the best set of abs?

Look at it like this for a second, Jamie ( Jafar from Aladdin ) wins the solo date and then lands another rose with a pretty good sob story about his past.  He earns her trust, “wins” a rose, and then promptly does something stupid by stirring up the gossip about Joe.  He goes from winning, to instantly being someone who is seen as being dramatic.

And what about Joe, he plays for the losing basketball team, and yet, still “wins” a chance to stay on the date and then “wins” a rose to the next round right after that.  So, he plays for the losing team, and yet, walks away the ultimate winner of the group date.  How does that make any sense?  If you lose, you lose!

Speaking of group dates, no one performed worse at the school house game then Brandon and he still walked away the winner advancing to the next round.  Proving again, winning means nothing on this show as long as the contestant thinks your cute.

Need further proof?  Rodney couldn’t tell an apple from a kiwi, yet he gets a rose as well. That’s okay though, because I like Rodney and excited to see him continue on.  Hey, us 5’8 and under guys have to pull for each other!  Even Peter, who lost at musical chairs and made an ass out of himself gets a rose.

The only real LOSERS from tonight, are the men who were sent home.  On to next week we go….
