The Avon Eagles Soar Past the Berea-Midpark Titans 41-0

Berea, OH – On Friday night, the Berea-Midpark Titans hosted the Avon Eagles at George Finnie Stadium. The Titans came into the game looking to build off a 37-0 win over the Midview Middies. The Avon Eagles came in looking to keep their season perfect after a 52-10 win over the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs. The Avon Eagles were dominant behind senior running back Jakorion Caffey, junior quarterback Nolan Goode and junior wide receiver Matt Maxey. 

The Eagles got right to business on their first drive of the game. Junior quarterback Nolan Goode threw a 11-yard completion to junior wide receiver Matt Maxey. Goode handed the ball off to senior running back Jakorion Caffey who carried the ball for another Eagles 1st down. Two costly penalties on Titans moved the Eagles downfield and into the RedZone. The Eagles capitalized on the penalties as Caffey ran into the endzone for a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Junior kicker Owen Warrick came on and scored the extra point, putting the score at 7-0 with 9:52 left in the 1st quarter. 

On their second drive of the night, the Eagles shined behind Jakorion Caffey. A personal foul call on the Titans moved the Eagles downfield to begin the drive. Goode handed the ball off to junior running back Tyler Kaufmann who carried the ball for 16 yards, giving the Eagles the 1st down. Goode handed the ball off to Caffey and he took off. He weaved through the Titans defense and into the endzone for a 51-yard touchdown. Warrick came on and kicked the extra point, making the score 14-0 with 3:30 left in the 1st quarter. 

The Eagles got the ball back on an interception by senior defensive back Carson Canning. Goode threw a 13-yard completion to Kaufman. Goode then handed the ball to Kaufmann who carried it for 4 yards. Goode threw a 12-yard completion to sophomore Grant Barr who was wide open in the endzone. Warrick scored the extra point, making the score 21-0 with 11:50 left in the half. 

The Eagles continued to soar as Caffey opened the drive with an impressive 73-yard carry. A personal foul penalty on the Titans moved the Eagles closer to the endzone. Goode handed the ball off to Maxey who ran into the endzone, scoring another Eagle touchdown. Warrick came on with another perfect kick, putting the score at 28-0 with 5:08 left in the half. 

After forcing a quick turnover, the Eagles offense took the field once again. Goode handed the ball off to Caffey who carried the ball for 13 yards, securing the 1st down. A 14-yard carry and another 13-yard carry by Caffey gave the Eagles three consecutive 1st downs. The Titans were able to force the Eagles to a field goal attempt. Warrick came on and kicked the 38-yard field goal, putting the score at 31-0 with 1:41 left in the half. 

After forcing the Titans to a turnover on downs, the Eagles worked quickly. With just seconds left, Goode threw a laser to Maxey for a 37-yard completion, putting the Eagles at 1st and goal. Caffey continued his impressive night as he ran into the endzone for a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Warrick came on and scored another extra point, putting the Eagles up 38-0 with 9 seconds left in the half. 

The Eagles weren’t done quite yet. Kaufmann carried the ball for 16 yards, securing the 1st down. A costly offsides penalty on the Titans and a series of running plays moved the Eagles downfield. The Eagles put in senior quarterback Tommy Weitzel to finish the game. He threw a 23-yard completion to senior wide receiver Lance Etienne, moving the Eagles closer to the endzone. A 10-yard holding penalty and the Titans defense forced the Eagles to a field goal. Warrick came on and scored the 25-yard field goal, putting the score at 41-0 with 4:51 left to play.  

This week’s player on the game was the running back Jakorion Caffey. He had a remarkable game and was crucial in the Eagles win. He boasted a stat line of 10 carries for 181 yards and 3 touchdowns. 

Next week, the Berea-Midpark Titans look to bounce back as they travel to North Ridgeville to take on the Rangers. The Avon Eagles look to keep their season perfect as they host the Midview Middies.
