We have a draw!!!! In classic boxing fashion, we couldn’t pick just one, and one of the greatest super fights of all time will end in a draw. Sorry, but I had to do it.
The Two winners are the original Rocky & Creed II
Anyone who would be reading this article has aleady watch Rocky about 50 times in their life, if not more. I know I’m on triple digits myself. With that being said, I don’t really need to go into any deep reason as to why it reached this peak in boxing lore.
Rocky is the original sports underdog that America fell in love with. He represents everything good about boxing, and this film might be the most inspirational film of all time.
That said, Creed II was every bit as good. Any true Rocky fan couldn’t help but watch this one and get choked up at least once or twice. This movie has everything!
Adonis Creed, the son of legendary Rocky villain Apollo Creed sets our to avenge his fathers death. The big match is set for him to face Ivan Drago’s son.
His mother, his soon to be pregnant wife and Rocky are all against the big fight. Creed takes it on anyway and almost loses his life in the ring, much like his father. A freak DQ saves his belt, but not his health as he is rushed to the hospital and stays there for several weeks, even pissing blood.
For awhile it looks as though Creed will never box again, or even live a normal life Eventualy Rocky who is estranged from his only son, takes on the task to train Creed one more time, in a chance for both of them to receive redemption.
They drive to the desert and train in a way that no prize fighter has before. It pays off because Creed comes back to win the rematch as Drago tosses in the towel in the closing moments.
This is heart wrenching as Drago lost his country when he lost to Rocky, and had hatred for years because of it. Failure was not an option this time around, but in the end, his sons safety was more important.
Why was this so emotional you ask? Because all three storylines in this flick revolve around a parent child strained relationship. Adonis is still heart broken about his dads death, and even more shaken up about his child who was recently born deaf.
Drago cant get past his loss to Rocky and spends the first 99% of the movie taking it out on his son.
Rocky, in the closing seconds of the film, finally reaches out to his own son Robert. All three fathers forgive and try to mend a once torn fence.
I don’t want to give away too much in case you haven’t seen this movie, but please let me put it to you this way, it’s emotional, entertaining and everything is done perfectly!
My top picks will always be the ones based on a true story.😁
