Week 1 is officially in the books between Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees and the Tallmadge Blue Devils. It was a heck of a battle to say the least. The Blue Devils would eventually come back from being shut out 0-7, all the way to a 13-7 comeback win in OT.
Although the score remained at 0-0 after the 1st Quarter, there was plenty of action. The Bees offense started off with a bang after a 25-yard completion from Quarterback Nate Henegar to dual threat receiver/running back Jacob Eterovich. The drive did eventually stall out, but it became known it would become a defense game after Henegar got picked off by Robbie Reid.
Tallmadge and Brecksville would then trade 3-and-outs together before a few more punts from each. It looked like exactly like what you would expect from some teams getting their first game action of the season.
The scoring finally got started with 4:44 left in the 2nd quarter by the Bees thanks to a 35 yard touchdown pass from Henegar to Max Ritter. It capped off a 52-yard drive for Brecksville which put them up 7-0. A lead they were able to hold onto with ease thanks to some elite defense.
That would be until the very end of the 4th quarter when the Blue Devils would finally decide to wake up on offense. Tallmadge Quarterback Ryan Loveless turned it up a notch help putting together a quick 46 second TD drive which was capped off by a 16-yard pass to Caleb Reifsnyder who had a big night for the Blue Devils.
You can also thanks a key defensive pass interference and missed tackles by the Bees to help out the drive.
After a key sack by Nate Hunt-Heller which brought down Henegar to force overtime, the Blue Devils were lucky enough to get the ball first in overtime.
With momentum on their side, it looked pretty easy for them to get into the endzone thanks to Lovless’ second touchdown of the night. It would give Tallmadge a 13-7 lead after a missed extra point following the touchdown.
The Blue Devils defense came through one more time, and a big sack by Ameer Yasin help back up the Bees offense which could not overcome the 4th and long situation.
It was a heck of a game to start off the High School Football season as Tallmadge comes out on top of Brecksville-Broadview Heights, 13-7 in an overtime thriller.
The Player of the game would have to go to Ryan Loveless accounting for both of the Blue Devils touchdowns. He used his legs in key moments when he needed to, and had a clean game by not turning the ball over at all.
