Tallmadge, Ohio – In a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon, the Tallmadge Blue Devils, coming off a two-week coronavirus pause, defeated the visiting Field Falcons, 53-40.

It was a back-and-forth first quarter with the two teams trading baskets, and both teams playing stellar defense.

With the score at 14-13 in the second stanza, Tallmadge went on a 9-0 run to close the half, padding their lead thanks to buckets from Aaron Gergely and Ty Hurst.

Field started off the third quarter with a couple of buckets to cut their deficit to five, but the Blue Devils turned on the jets and went on another run (this one 14-3), to increase their lead to 35-21 going into the final period.

Tallmadge would eventually pad their lead to as much as 21 in the fourth, and would hang on from there. The Blue Devils also played very well on both sides of the ball, forcing turnovers, blocking shots, and knocking down some of their own.

Junior Aaron Gergely had 24 points to lead all scorers. Sophomore Ty Hurst had 10 points, and junior Will Hudak chipped in 12 to aid the winning effort.

“It was just nice to get back on the court. We needed to get stops and see the ball go in the hoop to get our confidence back. Our defense allowed us to get out and get some easy baskets.” said Ty Hurst.

Tallmadge improves to 3-5 overall. They host Barberton on Friday evening in Suburban League American Division play.

The Field Falcons drop to 4-13 overall. They host Alliance Tuesday evening and Norton on Friday evening. Sophomore guard Braxton Baumberger led the Falcons with eight points.
