SUPER TUESDAY: Olmsted Falls Defeats Westlake to Advance 72-38

Elyria – It was a beautiful night at “The Coliseum” at Elyria Catholic High School for the district semi-finals. Where we had the Olmsted Falls Lady Bulldogs and the Westlake Lady Demons. Olmsted falls dominated the court tonight and played a very physical game against Westlake. Olmsted Falls started the game off with an 8-0 run and never looked back in a 72-38 victory.

The tip-off came and went with Olmsted Falls securing the ball to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs took a few errant shots to start the game, but quickly got it together and the buckets kept dropping. The first four minutes of the game were dominated by Olmsted Falls going on an 8-0 run. The Lady Demons passed around the perimeter looking for an open lane, but as soon as one opened the Lady Bulldogs slammed it shut.

The Lady Demons first points came off of a Lydia Tymoszcuk bucket from just inside the arc. In fact, Tymoszcuk had all of the Lady Demons first quarter points when she drained a wide open three from the corner. Olmsted Falls held tight to their lead and continued with punishing defense that made it difficult for Westlake to even get a good look. Olmsted Falls led 14 – 7 after one.

Olmsted Falls started the second quarter quickly with a Danielle Cameron 3 from the top of the key. Westlake continued to play hard and tried to penetrate the paint. Olmsted Falls had an answer to every point that Westlake put on the board. The Lady Bulldogs were content to slow play the last 2 minutes of the half and took a 14 point lead into halftime. Olmsted Falls 35 Westlake 18.

Olmsted Falls came out of the halftime break firing on all cylinders and snagging a quick score by Mia Kalich. Olmsted Falls continued to force low percentage shots out of Westlake. They kept Westlake outside the arc and forced a number of 3 point attempts. Westlake was just 24% from beyond the arc, thanks to the tough defense of the Lady Bulldogs. Olmsted Falls held Westlake to just 6 points in the 3rd quarter. Westlake trailed going into the final frame 57-26.

Olmsted Falls worked the clock in the 8 minutes, but never lost their intensity. The Lady Bulldogs gave up 12 points in the fourth quarter, but played stellar defense. The Olmsted Falls Lady Bulldogs won 72-38.

Speaking to Olmsted Falls Coach Jordan Eaton after the game, he said “early in the game we made a couple of mistakes that were rectified by effort, and being willing to play as hard as possible.”

Olmsted Falls returns Friday evening to “The Coliseum” at Elyria Catholic High School to take on the Avon Lake Shoregals at 7pm.
