Strongsville Rallies to Defeat Walsh Jesuit as Butera Scores 1000th Career Point

Berea, OH – Sidney Butera has a night to remember in Strongsville’s 45-39 win over Walsh Jesuit. This game would come down to the wire with great defense and big-time shots. In a game that Walsh Jesuit led till the final minute, the Strongsville Mustangs would come back and win.

For the Mustangs Sidney Butera led the team with 27 points. She would cash in on 4 threes and take numerous trips to the line. Rosalynda Jordan would have a solid game with some key buckets. She finished with 7 on the night.

 

The Warriors main scorer was Kara Esterak with 19 points. She had an impressive scoring display with buckets from all over the court. Also, for the Warriors Kami DiGennaro and Leah Sobolewski would have some scoring support with 6 points each.

 

In the first quarter Sidney Butera for the Strongsville Mustangs hit a deep step-back three pointer to surpass 1000 career points. This was her first shot of the game, and she would go on to score 2 more points in the first. There would be a brief pause in the game to recognize Butera and her incredible accomplishment. For the Warriors Kara Esterak had a nice quarter as well with 6 points. Going into the second the game was neck and neck with the score being 10-8 with the Mustangs leading.

 

In the second the Warriors put on a strong defensive performance. They would run both a full and half court press to hold the Mustangs to only 5 points in the quarter. 5 different Warriors scored in this quarter giving them the lead at halftime 20-15.

 

In the third quarter the Warriors would continue to have a heavy defensive presence. It was clear they did not want Sidney Butera scoring, doubling her every time she touched the ball.

The Warriors held the Mustangs to only 6 points and scored 9 of their own to keep the lead. Kami DiGennaro scored a crucial 4 points for the Warriors in the third. The score going into the final quarter of play was 29-21 Warriors still on top.

 

In the fourth quarter the story was all Sidney Butera for the Mustangs. She would dominate this quarter with clutch shots to eliminate their deficit and win the game for the Mustangs. Even while being double teamed, she scored 19 in the fourth. After trailing most of the game Butera would drill a three with under a minute to play to put them down by 1 point. She would then go to the line twice and hit 4 free throws to seal the game. To cap it all off she nailed a three pointer at the buzzer to end her 1000-point celebration. The Mustangs win 45-39.

  1. What a great event for girls basketball, what a back and forth game between the two teams. It just made me sick to see Mr.Twitter Mac basketball in the crowd! Stay away from these young girls… and stay off Twitter. I would not have my girls ever play for I guy like him. I don’t know the truth of why he suddenly resigned from Berea so I can’t comment until I hear the facts in the matter so I won’t . Funny how it gets shoved under the rug by administration! Do better people!

    1. I blame the parents! Sick bastards allow their children near the guy because they are sold on the BS narrative that he can get them into a D1 college. Insane! AAU basketball has ruined High School basketball in Ohio. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Good job Sid!
